Re: Kiln running when it's over 95 outside

NO, it'll likely ALWAYS be 95 degrees + directly around a hot kiln anyway.

Re: Glues - Update

Cr LAurence sells many different types of UV glues, and have a larger variety than the CLK website. They also appear to be cheaper than the mentioned websites. I buy large amounts from CR Laurence and have great success.

Re: Buying a used belt sander

Do you hear that Nay sayers the "Electrician isn't worried about the water and power"

Sorry for that but I've had numerous "discussions" regarding water and electricity here. The people that actually know what they are doing aren't concerned.

I'll send you some images.

Re: Buying a used belt sander

I bought mine many years ago and haven't gone through them all yet. I had to order a lot of them to get a good price. You can get them from here though https://www.fintechabrasives.com/sanding-belts/silicon-carbide-sanding-belts Kevin does make a good point regarding the 4x106 belts being a better v...

Re: Buying a used belt sander

I have converted plenty of wood belt sanders to be used wet. from 1" x 30" to 4" x 36" and yes sprayed water on them. Make 100% sure to have it plugged into a GFI breaker, I have been doing this for almost 20 years and have not ONCE had the GFI breaker trip because of water. I do...

anti-gravity machine???

The only way to get a totally smooth finish on both sides is to have both sides not touching a shelf. Basically a drop ring is your only practical way.

Re: quality glass cutter

I use these http://www.crlaurence.ca/productimages/2/2001_915.gif I use them on everything from Bullseye to 19mm 3/4" float glass. New ones are for thin glass and the old "worn out" ones are for thicker glass. They are $25.00 a dozen, yes that's like $2.00 each. I have some around her...

Can't help... but I have to give you credit for posting this without a single swear word.

I couldn't make a piece like that and have it be ruined without venting.

Cool piece though.

Euclids makes some great kiln. They are made in Canada and with our dollar taking a hit lately you'll likely save a significant amount.

It's the Fiber board that's smoking. It will only happen on the first firing. It's an organic binder they use to make it and will go away. Probably smells like burnt sugar.

Re: KILN BUILDING

I've built three kilns now. I learned practically everything needed to do it here.

A great source for parts is

http://www.duralite.com

You can get the elements, hangers, insulators etc. here.

Read the archives and or ask questions.

As home depot says...... You can do it, we can help.

Re: Sandblaster Foot Pedal

The abrasive NEVER comes in contact with any of the housing. It flow directly into the pinch membrane, while I suppose the aluminum would be a better material it may be unnecessary. If pricing is comparable I'd likely go with the aluminum as it'll likely last longer. You need to untread both ends of...

Re: Sandblaster Foot Pedal

I've been using there pinch valve for over a couple years and finally did wear out one of the gaskets. It cost $37.00 to replace the bladder, I believe these bladders last a lot longer than the old diaphragm as in the old system the abrasive had to take a 90 degree turn bouncing off the diaphragm ca...

These guys sell a foot pedal that operates a pinch valve. I've been using this system for a years and really prefer it to the old rayzist diaphragm setup.

Re: Float differences

go to a glass shop to get the glass it'll likely be cheaper than lowes AND you can ask them if they have a tin light and mark the tin side.

Other wise pretty much what Morganica said
