hi there, if it IS stuck to the wall and does not want to come off with a gentle tugthen do not force it. get a tool (knife, xacto) and pick at it like it was a fossile. if you tug, it might pull out a larger chunk than if you carefully cut it out. UNPLUG first. rosanna

yes do report back. it was not a failure, just one step on the ole learning curve. look at it again. do you like your design? did your edges come out nice? there are probably more successesful parts than not if you look at them seperately. keep notes. rosanna

it could also be burn out fumes from the fiberpaper. float is really sensitive to these and this also can be uneaven. make sure you vent well to about 1000f when using fiber products and organics. so how did the one shot class go? what sort of piece did you make in class? i have been curious about t...

OOooo that sounds interesting! i need some of that. i have done that sort of relief with a slip trailer filled with thick kiln wash and it does work. i bet that stuff would work just fine. that sounds like an interesting company to explore as well. rosanna

on the klaus example, i am sure he (or any other primo fuser) can do a really good job with beginners as well as more experianced folk. i think however that too wide a gap in experiance between students can be a problem. too wide a gap can fragment the limited amount of time available in a class esp...

i do not see why not. when i was casting my mags i used the top 3 of the 4 shelves and they worked out fine. that was in the 1650f range. rosanna

the paint will be smoother if you put it on a piece of glass (sandblasted is best) and mash/mix it with a pallette knife and then thin it. rosanna

hi carla, there are no stupid questions. there are however stupid and mean sprirted answers. i wouldn't take any mean spirited sneak attacks too seriously. that said, i think that you might be happier making your drop molds out of clay or rigidised fiber paper. what ever is easier to get your hands ...

Re: Small Molds

Bisque firing is a generic term used to designate the process of firing clay to a temperature higher than you ever plan to go again. In pottery we bisque to about 2000 for planned glases that mature at 1875. For a slumping mold where you probably will never go much over 1500 degrees, bisque firing ...

hi all, i think 'knowing your kiln' and keeping a log for each kiln is much more helpful than worrying about the different numbers. heat work performed is really what matters. i have 3 kilns and they all do the same heat work at different numbers. full fuse (float) varies from around 1500 to 1750f. ...
