Re: Choosing flat lap disks - type and grit

I'm in the process of aquiring a Venco flat bed grinder and will probably let the supplier get me a 120 ish disc just so I can hook into all the trueing up needed to be done. Later when things settle I'll most likely see what Jon Firth from Unicorn Glass in Darwin can do for me. He gets belts and di...

Re: For Bert, relating to 8mm thermocouple.

I've actually never calibrated a thermocouple. I only calibrate settings on my controllers that change the setpoint signal from the master controller. Yes, I find things I say often get lost in the wording. I sent a text to son asking where the hammer was so I could adjust the Fuji temperature cont...

For Bert, relating to 8mm thermocouple.

Thanks for previous reply Bert. Reassuring me that a calibration in the middle range was wisest way to go. Now for my second question in response to your reply which is now lost to cyber space. Is it normal for a wide ranging temperature measuring device as bulky as my recommended thermocouple be ou...

Re: New Panels

I'm really drawn to the white Zen garden type section in the tall piece. If you could manipulate this to however you wanted it, I wish I could afford one. I also have a passion to shape steel, it must have something to do with heat being involved. This being said, you need to find a new skill or col...

Back onto production.

An update into the idea of a cafe supporting a carefree existance in the studio without having to devote time to meeting production obligations has hit me before I had a chance to duck. The cafe has given me exposure and urges from patrons to get back into the studio. This doesn't pay the bills or t...

Across the road from my cafe is a sculptor who uses 'Hebel Bricks' which her husband is the local building supplier of such product. I haven't had time to test it for possible use, but am told that it insulates, handles great heat but degrades to a powdery surface on the side that cops the heat. It ...

Back on to the contracts with galleries. At our cafe I exhibit my work as a tease for the moment and display work of a print maker and an artist who is very good at pastels. They know I'm starting out and are *foolish* enough not to have requested a contract but lucky enough that it's me. I just ran...

These cards sound great!, but have you thought about developing a logo that wouldn't have to change for years. The only thing left out on mine is the email address which I'll pen in with silver ink when the need arises.

Thanks for the link Nelson. After much frustration I ended up with a 4' flouro which I then had to insert into a length of PVC pipe. Because of all the health warnings regarding this light I only made a small slit in the pipe which shields me and directs the light downwards onto the glass I place un...

I wouldn't mind trying to do battered quail once I get over the nori rolls saga that I've got myself into. My Paragon GL22A kiln doesn't get the workout that I'd like to give it, if it was a bigger kiln I would almost be in tears to see it as cold. These panels aren't from a sand castings, but from ...

earth, water, wind & fire float panels.

These panels are the last four of twelve successfully made for home and cafe. The theme for this lot was so dominant for so long that it has become part of the logo for our cafe. I like how light livens float up and am looking forward to the chance of doing something different soon once I get my fix...

Good one Randy, I've made a couple as personal gifts by cutting, grinding and polishing. To re-fire on bulk certainly makes so much sense as it's much the same as what I do when I add them as elements into larger pieces. - haydo
