Thank you. At least the rim problem is right at the design. So, I call it an organic process as the pea pod grows. Or some other BS like that :D (It wasn't supposed to look like a pea pod design, but my helpful family proclaimed that it was a pea pod, so okay, it's a pea pod.)

I still can't make the picture attach, but if anyone wants to look I stuck it at the bottom of my pathetic little website. So go to my homepage and scroll to the bottom. Cheers.

Sandpiper did it...Yea!!!!

I did it. I fused. I slumped. I got a bowl. No bubbles. Nice shiny surface. Yippeee. The design is not so great and the rim is a little smunched (technical term) But it is a bowl. Thanks so much for all your help. I'm so grateful. I'm going to try to attach a picture of the first born, but I may not...

Linda and Monica, You are both right. Monica, exploration learning is the best kind of learning there is. I firmly believe in turning a student loose and letting them make mistakes, fall down, pick themselves up and learn from those mistakes. (As long as they don't get hurt!!!) The gifted student th...

conflicting info--help!

Everything I read says to fire shelf paper first. My supplier said no, because it reduces the amount of times you can use it. So, if I'm using it on the shelf, what do I do? And, if I'm using it to create a hole, as in a pendant for cord to pass through what do I do? Two different applications, so t...

Okay, my thoughts on teaching. I am a teacher by trade. I've taught high school, middle school, swimming, scuba diving, etc. Over the years I've discovered something. No matter how good you are at your subject, if you can't "read" your students, you're a failure. My stained glass teacher w...

Tony, Thank you for your support. Believe me, I'm trying daily. The husband is getting that glazed look in his eyes. The one that says I'm neglecting him, the teenager, the baby, the dog, the house. I found him gazing at the kiln the other day. I think he's trying to decide what its got that he doen...

Tony,
I love that matte finish. This board is great. I still haven't accomplished anything good in my kin, but my head is spinning. So many ideas, so little technical talent. Sigh :?

attack bracelets anothe rookie question

I used to teach scuba diving, and I carried a pretty hefty liability policy in case anyone did something stupid and got hurt/died. So, I'm always tuned into possible lawsuits  So I see these cool glass bracelets. Neat, but what happens when some dizzy female type is gesturing and hits her bra...

Thanks Brad. I was just there and e-mailed for a catalog. I figured they would just tell me to contact my local retailer. I guess you can't view the catalog on-line, or did I miss something.

I think I'm beginning to sound like an idiot. I'm really not. Honest

Gerri, I should have figured out what BE stands for. My son had to tell me what LOL stands for. He redeemed himself so I let him out of the kiln. Next question who is the best supplier for the BE shelf and shelf wash. Any suggestions? Again, thanks for helping the rookie.

Thanks for all the answers. Now comes the part where I look really stupid. Gerry, what's a BE shelf? I fused another piece. Got two bubbles again. Thought, what the hell, so I heated the kiln up until they broke. Fun, now I've got great big holes I can do something interesting with, but it kind of r...

Bubbles from my shelf?

Okay I tried again. I fused two pieces of glass. During the fusing two giant bubbles appeared, think small hardboiled eggs. When I took the piece out of the kiln, it became obvious that the bubbles came from the shelf, because the glass was fused together and humped up together. My helpful son said ...

Jo, Jane, and Steve, Thanks for the replies. I keep hearing Bullseye wash is the best. That's the pink stuff right? I need to get some. I'm afraid I expect perfection the first time out, so I think the kiln and I are going to have to come to an understanding. I think I'm going to need to understand ...

I'm new to bulletin boards, too, so I hope I do this right. I did fire the glass once to fuse two like pieces of glass together, and to smooth the edges. The outside is really nice. I just expect the inside to be as nice. Yes, this was regular Spectrum art glass. I thought I'd test out the kiln with...

new to warm glass and having trouble already

Help me!!!!! I just got a kiln, and I'm new to warm glass. Everybody is full of info, but it is all different. I used a fireworks floral slumper and treated it with kiln wash like the directions said, but when I slumped over it, the inside was textured and nasty. I had visions of nice shiney...
