Re: Lid Element replacement

if you have a gfi on it that is tripping, then you've mis-wired it and there's a short to ground somewhere. look for an element wire that is touching the metal shell somewhere.

Re: firing problem

you're confusing volts and amps.if you talk to your electrician like that, he's either going to be confused, or will have to teach you. it pulls amps (consumes electricity). that is what the kiln maker can control (by the element size). it is powered with volts, and the kiln maker doesn't have any c...

Re: firing problem

they're pulling your leg. fth is failure to heat fast enough. this means there either isn't enough power, or enough elements. adding more insulation to the sides will prevent heat escaping, which may help it heat up faster, but paper won't do anything because once the binder is burned off, there's n...

Re: How to make SURE my electric works before buying kiln?

if you're not able to look in the breaker box and answer these questions, then you need an electrician. it would be too dangerous for us to guess what you have.

Re: Drape stupid glass, drape, please

small things slump or drape slower and take more heat work to look the same as large ones. there's not much weight in the glass at the end of the tips to pull it down. the glass has to be more fluid to move. you have fiber paper under it, which could be holding it up somewhat too, although it's pret...

Re: MK -100 saw water source

i don't understand. if the pump is in fresh water all the time, where is the glass dust coming from? do you have the water draining from the hole in the tray back into the bucket, or where does it go? if it is getting into the pump bucket, you might try making a cascade bucket line, and put the pump...

you need to turn your kiln upside down. it looks like it's trying to drape up.

well, i guess it does need holes. the bubbles came from trapped air. if you get the glass off, note where the bubbles where, and drill small holes there (and perhaps elsewhere in the swirl).

Re: How did this happen?

if it's mechanically held (by the swirls probably or a slight undercut, turn it upside down and suspend from 1" posts on the edges of the mold only. slowly heat up to annealing temp as a top temp, and listen. if it's not fused to the mold, it should drop off sometime before you get to 1000.

Re: hire fire glue?

i doubt it. most glues are organic, and organics can't usually last that high. there may be some hi-temp epoxies; for instance, you can use some epoxies on car headers, which probably reach 800-900F or so.
