Re: gold nugget fused in glass
How big is the nugget? And, talk about a $$$ learning curve? Really, really thin things work well fused between sheets of glass. Like the thinkness of a piece of paper.

Re: Slumping technique question
I've thought about that too. You could try a plaster mold. That would offer round edges on all sides, but the mold side would be rough.
It's good to copy others' work to begin learning about glass, but it's better to create own, unique, styles and methods when you begin selling to customers.

OMG, you're shy about posting here? There are some really good pieces (like yours), but a lot of crap too.

Re: lettering fused into or onto glass
I would suggest you just buy the HP Laser printer and print your own decals. 1) The letters will be crisp and easily read, 2) you'll have an awesome tool to use on other projects (even if this one does not pan out), 3) and this project should MORE THAN pay for the cost of the printer and the laser p...

Re: dichroic COE82
You could try using dichro slide papers. They work, but I've found the dichroic coating can look washed out on some floats.

I didn't read every bit of that, but I would not fire 600 DPH. You could crack your flower pots. IMHO. I usually heat 300 DPH or something like that.

Enamels or frit blends? It reminds me of the raku frit stuff my lampwork friend gave me to experiment with. Love your colors, BTW.

Re: Kiln Heat in Room
Not really. As long as you're a foot away from the wall, you should be fine. I'm not sure if your garage is sheetrock or cinder block. Just make sure flammable materials aren't too close. My studio is 10' x 15'. I use a bathroom air vent to pump out the heat, but it's more for creature comfort than ...

Re: setting up for large production
Those of us who do production work learned by trial and error. Since I'm not familiar with your set-up, I'm not sure what productive advice I can give. If you plan on using recycled glass as you indicated in your other post, I'd find large supplies of glass that are the same COE (like one enormous w...

Re: Fire pit glass?
Dianne, You're fusing? You're not mixing different glasses from different companies, are you? If the glass is all the same COE, from the same company, you will have better results. If it's a mixture of glasses from different companies - you're probably screwed. We usually use electric, computerized ...

Re: Fire pit glass?
Dianne, like how? A wood fired down daft barrel or a fire pit for pottery? If you mean that, then that's usually a very low temp - like 1000 F to 1200 F, which is too low temp for glass fusing.

Re: How to Create frit casting mold - Help!
Buy plaster-of-paris, make your mold from that. I have had great success mixing play ground sand with the plaster. It makes the molds much more durable. I have gotten as many as 10 firings out of one plaster mold - but it was a simple, open-faced mold.

Re: Iridized glass
The clear AND the iridized are 96? I thought 96 had made their iridized resistant to kiln forming?
Whatever the case, the iridized has burned off. You can buy 96 iridized that will survive the kiln. Sucks for you.
*Survived - survive - same word.

Re: Firing crushed bottles...
I was able to cast float in my kiln at 1700 - no problem. I have a Skutt GM1414. In my experience, blue bottle glass is a PITA. Brown bottle glass seems to flow better. But, like Bert said, there's no guarantee than one bottle is compatible to another. If you're just playing around, go ahead and exp...

Re: How to Tell Good Art from Bad?
His audience is the mass, consuming audience of art buyers, or artists? Informing the public, who does not want to know and does not care, is like teaching a pig how to read. For myself, I found it educational and I may present it to my classes, but I'm a little wary of defining art. When I taught p...

I think Bullseye has a great cranberry - not sure Spectrum has one. But, I think Spectrum has the best cherry red. It's a matter or personal choice.

Re: in...doors
You might consider placing a white sheet/ screen/ something behind the glass so you can see the glass without the background adding confusion. Just a suggestion.
