Okay...here's a photo of the successful slump if I have correctly figured out how to add the picture. The glass is just clear, no purdy colors, as I just wanted to get my slump schedule right. Carla http://community.webshots.com/scripts/editPhotos.fcgi?action=showMyPhoto&albumID=124888643&ph...

After taking a class at Bullseye (I highly recommend everyone doing this if you can) they told us some of the BE colors will react with others. Can I remember which are the reactive colors. Nope. Just that some will do this. It's happening on the chemical level not on the color level. Does that make...

I did it using Charlie's suggestion of ramping up 50° an hour to 1250°. It worked like a charm. Thanks so much!

This board is the bestest!

I'm an idiot. For whatever reasons my browser keeps opening up this page at the oldest posts. So here I am merrily answering questions posted a year ago. Thanks Cynthia for being polite. I'll try to figure it out, or being more observant, or keep answering old questions. :? Bare, bear? with m...

Cynthia... I have gone thru much of the same thrash you are doing with my jewelry. I did not go the guild.com route as I don't want to do a bunch of production work. What helped me was to reevaluate my goals as a jeweler. I found I could do a lot more with my advertising money locally and build my b...

I didn't make that very clear, huh? The bowl is 1/5" deep, the glass is just the regular 2 layers thick.

Thanks.

Carla
My fingers are all confused today. The bowl is 1.5" deep. Ack.

Slumping pasta bowl?

I am slumping a pasta bowl and gradually getting the results I want. But I'm at a conundrum of do I let it soak longer or crank up the heat a bit. The details: My bowl is 10.5" across and needs to slump 1.5" BE glass I'm touching bottom with my current schedule but want the glass to settle...

I thought the new white out these days has been reformulated so that it is no longer toxic??? :? -Terry O. Jewelers use white out lots to act as an "anti-flux"...to keep solder from flowing to areas we don't want soldered. The fumes from this stuff are supposed to be toxic. It's not going...

Jewelers use white out lots to act as an "anti-flux"...to keep solder from flowing to areas we don't want soldered. The fumes from this stuff are supposed to be toxic. It's not going to be the problem for glass people using in a kiln that it is for jeweler's who have their faces over the p...

Plan on visiting Powell's Bookstore. It's like no other. It's sorta in the same neighborhood as the Bullseye Gallery. It's one square block, 3 stories of books. They shelve used books with the new ones so you can get all sorts of great deals. Be sure and check out their art book collection. Have fun...

I was using Uro clear with the BE. It fused with ugly misshappen bubbles. A BE friend thought it might be because it was so flat the air had no channel's to escape.

I'm back to using BE clear. It works.

Can it be glued together & a clear piece put over it to help hold it in the fusing?

It looks like thermal shock to me too. Wow!

Wow! You guys are good. Thanks!

I think I'm going to make a sample door and install glass in my studio. Then I can slam away and see how it goes.

What would we all do with out this board? It's such a help.

Kitchen cabinet windows???

We have taken the leap to actually sell our dinnerware and tiles. So wouldn't ya know it, the client "LOVED" our tiles and plates, "But...." could we make panels to fit into his kitchen cabinets. Well, sure we can. Then I started thinking.......hummmm, who puts it in (him, but ho...

Sorry- it was early (pre-coffee) and I skipped over the "searching the archives" part. Why not go for lots of 11.5" shelves? Funny. That maybe a solution....actually, that's quite brilliant. Go drink more coffee, you are on a roll. I'm off to check my kiln and see if that will work. ...
