Archives Been checking them. Mostly the archives seem to say go to fiberboard & rigidizer (and yes mullite is what I call ceramic). But Bert sez there is something new out and he's waiting for more info. And since this seems to be a problem that many of us have (thanks to all who have given sug...

I too, notice that the Uro clear (the only uro I use) is prone to big misshappen bubbles, while the BE in the same load, has nice little champagne bubbles. I haven't bothered to work out a schedule to fix the problem. I'm going back to the BE clear.

Big seamless shelf, help!

I am searching the archives but wanted to see what the current state of thinking is on shelf types. We have a coffin kiln with the dreaded 3 part ceramic (is this what people are calling mullite?) shelves. We are doing production runs of 11" plates and with our shelves with seams we can get onl...

What are all these flattened bottles used for? For the life of me I can't think of that many uses?

We've had the opposite experience from Avery. We had problems with Photoabrasive products and customer service. Rayzist has been rock solid for us. I like the Rayzist resist as it doesn't require the total darkness that Photoabrasive's does. You also, might want to look at time zones. Photoabrasive ...

Damn. My head swirls with the possibilities of what could be going wrong. This problem has existed since the summer, so I will rule out holiday lights. BUT! we live far from town & I periodically get errP codes tho nothing seems to have happened and the kiln is cooking along. And no, the errP co...

Tony: Thank you! This is so helpful. But I need to ask some dumb questions, re: what words to use. I have a thermocoupler in my kiln (soon to be replaced). What I am wanting inaddition is a probe type thermometer to stick in the peep hole or drape under the lid to test the temp. I picture a long pok...

Pyrometer, bubbles, kiln temps UPDATE

I've been doing my research on what to do re: my bubble problem. I'm sharing in case this is helpful info for others. To recap: I was in production mode, making lots of 8.5" full circle plates, 2 layers. An all of a sudden I went from little pin prick bubbles between the layers, to big lumpy bu...

My bubbles are between my layers of glass. I'm on a pyrometer search and will report back on all my findings and solutions.

More info then you need. I do have a computer pyrometer ramp up-down thingy on my kiln. The pyrometer I am talking about is one to double check the accuracy of the in-kiln pyrometer. I did a search of the archives and found a link to CentredeVerre and will call and talk to them tomorrow. This has be...

So Charlie was it you who gave me the pyrometer info, or was it Tony? As to annealing...interesting you should mention this. We are making plates out of two pieces of lite colored glass and then sandblasting designs on them. We had a bunch at a show and every once in a while I when I would say they ...

Thanks Brock. I will go check the archives for Brad's beads.

Pyrometers..plates...bubbles agrhhhh!

I am convinced I need to know the real temperature in my kiln (an evenheat coffin kiln) so I can figure out what is going wrong with my schedules. Several months ago one of you told me where to get a pyrometer and I have lost that info when I switched over to a new zippy computer. So could I have it...
