Just got an MK 101 w/hotdog blade for $280. Bought a stand for $49 at Costco (portable work bench).
Pump had just been replaced and had the switch alteration done on it already.
Craigslist.

Re: Clay texture plate/ kiln carving mold
Paper Clay is great stuff. I need to play with some. I know a potter told me he uses it to repair his work sometimes because it doesn't shrink, or rather you can control shrinkage by fiber content, both % and length/type. What schedule did you use with the Paper Clay? The guy at the pottery shop sai...

Clay texture plate/ kiln carving mold
So today when I was buying clay to make myself some simple texture plates/molds the guy at the store told me he does not prefire the clay tiles, just dries them out then fires them for the first time with the glass on top. I didn't think to question him more. Now I'm wondering if I misunderstood him...

Re: LIQUID GLASS................CMC.............Alternatives
I have at home methyll celuslose powder - I understand that it is NOT CMC , am I right? The container is sealed, so I do not want to open it, if it is not CMC. [-and try] I also have corn starch [pure, for archivers] Can I use this perhaps as the alternative glue for the powder? I also have klyr fi...

Re: powders-good studio practice-avoiding contamination
Excellent ideas on this thread. I'm just starting to explore, um, everything glass. Since the thread seems to have gone towards sifters I'll start my questions there. Do any of you know if flour sifters would work? It is easy to change the mesh size, might put too much powder into the air though. Th...

Re: 3D printing with glass powder
What about words? They can be artful or not, yet it would be a stretch to claim they are handmade. We use the terminology of craft, wordsmith, but understand it is a metaphor only, don't we? Yet I hope no one would suggest words can not fall into the catigory 'art.' Computer code is just another lan...

Re: 3D printing with glass powder
Hi there Morganica!
I've worked in other mediums but I'm brand new to fused glass.
I found your blog about a week ago and have been reading through it rather compulsively. It is a wonderful source of information and inspiration. I am a big fan of your open source style.

3D printing with glass powder
Wow. http://www.shapeways.com/blog/archives/401-you-can-now-3D-print-in-glass-with-Shapeways.html They use glass powder, add a binder with the 3D printer, add powder, add binder, add powder.... Then fire it in a kiln. I knew they were trying to develope this but didn't know anyone had any success. C...

Re: About reactives - in BE glass
Are you positive what you are looking for is a reaction? Could it be from super fine/powdered frit? When I lay powder directly onto thinfire, then put large frit on top of that, then cap with clear and do a tack fuse the result looks a lot like a reaction (from the top side) with the powder color fo...

Re: About reactives - in BE glass
Current BE catalog, page 25 Steel Blue 0146 on Reactive Cloud Opal 0009 creates a deep red or rust color reaction by the look of it, but I've never done that combo? My Husband found the link! http://www.bullseyeglass.com/images/stories/bullseye/PDF/other_technical/get_a_reaction_bullseye_reactive_gl...

Re: MESH MELT
Immerman of Clear Water Glass Studio uses hardware cloth (Rabbit cage wire) for his wire melts. Isn't that galvanized? Georgia Cage wire and hardware cloth are not the same thing. I checked with a friend that keeps small animals, so this is second hand info but I thought it might be useful: Hardwar...

Re: New and kiln is getting delivered today!
Excellent advice! I've had kiln set up and firing programs included in two classes I've taken, but it was still unnerving to hit start the first time! Kiln is all set up and I kiln washed the bottom. The kiln came with two ways to open it, top or clam style. I thought I was choosing between those op...

New and kiln is getting delivered today!
I am really new to warm glass but I'm a dive right in kind of girl so I have a Paragon 16 Clam Shell being delivered today :D the electrician was here Friday so once it arrives I'm good to go. On that front. Oh and the basic kit with a shelf and whatnot too. I have a selection of Bullseye glass, fri...
