So can I ask a correlary Q? What about Thick, heavily textured glass. I mean glass without a flat surface. Are any of the cutters out there worthwhile, or just stick with the Diamond band saw or similar?

Yep, you've got me nailed. But the more impatient I get, the more I'm looking at doing a lot of stuff hot. Craved out Graals, Diamond wheel cutting, then fire polishing. Once I get around to it, I'll post some pics.

That actually fits in with my reading. "Technique is cheap, it's the ideas that are valuable" tm.

Yes Brock I have commenced Graduate study in Glass at Kent State. So defending my thoughts is going to be my stock in trade.

Hey Brock, you mind if I take this (part) to the main board? "Technique is cheap" Harvey Littleton circa 1975. It's something that has been (and will be) thrown in my face for the next 3 yrs. I'd love to have more ammo, or learn the opposition's arguments. When I have time to phrase it I'l...

Technique is easy to understand, creativity is not. KInd of fits into the (now very old) joke about the Mother saying her child could draw like Picasso. The rest goes, But would anyone buy them.... I don't think that people really want to know how things are done, the same way they don't want to kno...

Kind of a cross between 2-3. A cast vase, with rings inside Hoizantally, kind of like clunky RISD rings. The more I think about it I may have to do it hot. Hey, there's an analogy. There's a child's toy that has various colored plastic rings, that you put on a post in size order. If I wanted to put ...

SHoot guys, How's $15 plus shipping sound. Soda Lime (actually Spectrum 96, so in a pinch you can melt it down) Ground to 80 grit. Can do 220 easy as well. Of course Latticino handles, and imitation marital aids would cost extra. Can probably crank about 4 an hour. Since I've never used one, there m...

One thing I have discovered through my new grinding/polishing exp, Sharpies on glass are not permanent. Yes if you let them dry, they'll stick, but if you depend on them for engraving/cutting lines they don't cut the mustard. On the other hand, the Paint pens DO stand up to extensive water. I'll fin...

Frax paper/ dams

OK this will involve your imagination. Imagine a series of cast rings. I want to pre cast the rings, polish etc. Then put these rings inside a vessel form. So you have a solid cast vase with rings inside. The trick is that I want the rings to be a different color from the vase. They don't actually h...

The HP/ apple laser printer info was this. They printed the image onto DECAL paper, then gave it a cover coat. Now where you get the decal paper?... But it was a direct one step thing, skipping the screen step.

Not from personal exp!!! The prob I've "heard" of with ceramic shell is removal. Evidently it can be tougher than the glass... Also as a first time use of the ceramic shell(unless you know the recipe is OK for glass) I would mount the mold in a bucket of sand/similar in case it does not ho...

What might be easier is Decals. Rivas Girdas (in ceramics) does it all the time. Also there are catalogs of decals out there for china. He just did a workshop here on creating your own decals, but I missed the class. The lecture involved cutting a screen, then using enamels as the ink, to create the...

Missive frm the land of Hot Glass.

Chocolate is a BAD idea. Chickens are only good for good fireworks AND clearing the shop. Popcorn can work, IF you are clever. Don't even think about a Potato, unless you have more than 100lbs of hot glass.

Hey, save me a couple of lenses. Trade you 24% lead cullet (Gabbert G-12), pound for pound and I'll pay shipping. OK 2 pounds G-12 for 1 pound old lenses.. If they are actually Lead(the lenses), boy it would save me a LOT of time/stress. i.e. Making my own lenses... And if you have an Actual PILE of...

Just because I'm into failure right now, I'm working on actually trying all these products.

You said you packed it in sand. Presumably dry sand, and gently. Could you wet the sand to get it to pack better? Or soak the sand so it flows ?

Or is this the one that is water soluble until fired?

In the olde days, they would make a Lead center, then thread that on. I have a number in my (school) srudio. The wheels were not even threaded, just poured a lead collar in, then force threaded it on.

you "should" be able to get that feature Without the 5 users. The multiple is usually an extra fee. I know we depend on the web quite heavily, but reading the boxes has helped me in these situations. If My QB box weren't packed somewhere between Ohio and St Lou, I'd look for you.

yes billable expenses and time can be tracked, depending on the version. I DO use the turbo tax import option and it seems to work well. I've only used it for Landscaping, so I can't answer any specific Q's on glass accounting.

sorry to add more rain to the parade. But if you have reinforced the mold with chicken wire, that might cause probs. The whole metal vs microwave thing.

I've done the turkey thing, but got tired of it, too slow and usually I'm doing it in the dark. The wallpaper steamer works for me. Take a lunch tray, 2 hard bricks, and something to prop the steamer hose. Put the mold upside down on the bricks , put the hoe in the mold, and fire it up. The advantag...
