And here's a recent news flash.... "Bendheim has received the first shipment of new Lamberts Striped Glass! Popular flashes such as blue on clear, red on clear and red on yellow are presented in alternating horizontal bands of color that allow for rapid tonal gradation within a relatively small...

Impeccable. Nice design. You give new meaning to the expression "less is more". :)

Well, I guess I won't worry about kitties slurping a little water out of the wash tub filled with glass. And yesterday, CNN ran an article on folks in India using ground glass as roughage. Hmmm.... well... um, quite!

Lapidary Journal had a multi-part article recently on photographing on the cheap. You might check their website and see if it's posted there. Also, Charles Lewton-Brain has a book on small scale photography that you can get through Rio Grande. Both apply to jewelry, but there are strong similarities...

I've been told that when I fuse larger pieces, the elements on the side won't spread heat evenly enough to the center of the piece to prevent cracking. The idea is that the top elements are an equal distance to all areas of the flat piece. I hear fusing small pieces with side elements doesn't matte...

Is there a special reason you want top-firing for glass? I have two ceramics kilns I use almost exclusively for glass that are side-firing.

Yes, I think it should be renamed the Stupid Bowl especially after they refused to air the Child's Pay ad during half-time.

200 in my area of NY, and it ain't enough. And the cable is buried so upping service to 400 would be expensive. My big kiln draws 75 amps, the smaller one 45, and I have to be careful about what else I use when I'm fusing. There's the compressor, the sandblast vacuum, saw, grinder, etc. 200 in my n...

The drawback for me was the waste.... I can use a kiln-washed shelf over dozens of times, but not so with the shelf liner. Also, the particles as it degrades.... just too much messin' to be simple.

All the glass suppliers carry either Superspray or Spray A which is lead-bearing. I get borax at Walmart in the laundry soap department. Mix according to instructions in the archives. ( I can't stress the value of the archives enough as well as the tutorial above.) As to the pitted shelves, if they'...

There is tons in the archives about devitrification, that scummy haze that develops on glass when lingering too long at certain temps. I use Superspray on everything once during the initial hard fuse. On large pieces, I don't attempt to fuse more than two items on two shelves. One shelf usually resu...

Lots on this in the archives.... yes, I have a large Skutt with NO controller, a kilnsitter, pyrometer, and timer. I do all my fusing up to about twenty inches and four layers and all Reusche painting with no controller and no problems. I use overspray on everthing to avoid devit, I don't crash the ...

We have an earlier thread going on this subject.... can we combine them? Brad posted some good info about the virus. I've received one bad email but deleted it immediately so don't seem to have a problem. The virus scan info posted earlier was definitely useful.

Or glue them on a board in some neat pattern, then make a whiting bed in the kiln, press the nailboard into the whiting bed to get the nail impressions, then slump over that. We've had good luck slumping a footprint with a nailhole using this procedure. And, of course, there's always painting.....

Is it old or new tile? Not that old asbestos stuff I hope? That would explain why it's holding up so well in the kiln, but probably not what you wanted to hear! Keep us apprised.

Well, I prefer textured silver as I think it loses some of its character and beauty when it's too polished. So I just use Zam and either a felt or muslin wheel on my Fordam.

This is a link to the texture we talked about today. (Sorry Brad, for posting it here, but Marty's e-mail is down.) It's the first of three pieces that will be mounted to a single black powder-coated aluminum panel, each piece standing off the panel at least an inch to let light in. http://dell.shu...

if you turn it over, that bubble and the folded over foot make a pretty stable platform. i sandblast a pattern into the top flat layer that was against the shelf. another idea is to not slump it flat, but rounded off. the center caves in and the neck droops, but the bottom is flat. this makes an id...
