Re: Stainless Steel Mold
Dana, Not sure if this would work for you. First I prep the SS usually by sanding, then on my workbench, I place a very large cardboard box on it's side to contain the spray, place the SS in the box, heat it with a heat gun, then using a mini paint spray gun and compressor, spray on the kiln wash, d...

Re: Testing Protocol For Stained Glass
You might find this tech note from Bullseye helpful http://www.bullseyeglass.com/images/stories/bullseye/PDF/TechNotes/technotes_03.pdf I tried using art glass when I started but very quickly decided it was a waste of time, materials and effort. All better spent using 90 or 96 glass. Still have my s...

Re: Surprise crack
Bonnie, I'd be concerned about submitting work to a gallery with an obvious, (serious?) flaw. Even though it will be hanging and may not be easily seen. Although hand made work is rarely flawless, a crack regardless if whether or not it will get worse, to me, speaks to the quality of work created by...

Les, that glass looks like your own creation from PBs. What part of it is Saturday Glass? It did turn out beautifully.

Re: My first big break! But not the good kind. What happened
Brandie, When I first started working in kilnformed glass, I would use schedules provided by other sources, figuring if it worked for them it should work for me, yada, yada, yada. But one caveat most of the more successful artists gave was that schedule worked for them in their kiln. As my experienc...

Re: aesthetic versus practival side of hanging fused glass
Hi Maggie, In a solo show I did recently, I created some work for hanging as well as for plinth display. For hanging I had to comply with a click rail system. I decided on two processes. One was to have the work framed by a professional framer and the other I experimented with myself. I bought some ...

Re: MESH MELT
Havi, I've seen many stainless steel products that can be used for a mesh melt. Deep fryer basket, just make sure you clean off the grease. I just bought a s.s. basket for veggies on the bbq. A colander, many kitchen items, just make sure they are s.s. and consider the shape for what you are trying ...

Re: Compatibility
I think you allowed enough time for annealing, actually 3 hours seems more than enough. In my kiln I would have held at 1050/1100 for 30/45 min, skipped the bubble squeeze, (that was done during the fusing process), gone a little faster to process temp to avoid devit, not gone as high as 1480 for FP...
