Hey Brock, do you remember that quiet, demure sweet lady who took one of the B&A classes here? She was very very nice and looked so conservative - wore her hair in a bun every day and was so soft spoken? Then we were outside on the patio having a drink after class and she matter of factly said,...

I wouldn't worry with a kiln that size. You should be fine - but it wouldn't hurt to open the door if it gets really hot in there while your firing.

What sort of kiln are we talking about here? My huge one throws off a bunch of heat and makes the studio quite hot. Most importantly, what is the current progress of the cars? Are they already in paint? If so, and the kiln is a very large one that throws a bunch of heat, I would say find someplace t...

My newest work is spiritual and low carb. Oh, and another thing Don - speaking of low carb. If you gain "spiritual pleasure" at the thought of having something sweet, but can't because of that damn Dr. Atkins, try sugar free strawberry jello covered in that whipped cream that comes in a c...

If it was completely original it wouldn't be recognizable as art. There's precious little originality out there to worry about. The hand-crafts are the last place originality shows-up. When it does, expect it to be ripped-off immediately and show-up in a Kay Beenie Weenie book (or whatever her name...

Lisa, this is fantastic! I so hope this is the first in a long series of these wonderful little guys. I'm not sure about this, but, I think the waterjet cutting expense would not be that much greater if you added more guys, provided they needed the same cut as the first. Reguardless - they are just ...

Wow, that's very well done. I like the fact that it didn't "muddy-up" for lack of a better term. It's really very nice.

I find it difficult to accept the notion that a texture is unique. After all, there are a finite number of tools that make these textures, and there is bound to be some overlap in appearance. For instance, consider the work of Phillip Baldwin and Monica Guggisberg, compared to Ben Edols and Kathy E...

Ah Jackie, you're opening that pandora's box again. We are all influenced somehow. My interest in texture and powder comes from seeing William Morris pieces on a visit to Seattle, and purchasing has "Artifacts" book. His use of colour, the subtlety and strength of his work left a huge imp...

I’ve gotten so many e-mails on this subject the past two days that I figured it would be easier to post my thoughts here rather than repeat them over and over in email responses. Besides, everyone who emailed me is from the board, so it’s probably a good topic of interest here. To paraphrase the...

Phil, as I said off the board, it is absolutely fabulous! =D> Now tell them all about the rest of the powder room . . . Oh, never mind. I'm here, you're not, so I'll do it. He also made a bunch of fantastic 20" x 2" black tiles mixed with some very narrow, equally long irid tiles that go b...

I was actually trying to be a little cheekier, but the mold maker from downstairs was a tad nervous about it. Brock That is just side-splitting funny, Brock. I can just imagine you asking the guy downstairs if he had a moment to snap a photo for you, and then dropping your pants. Oh, I'm about in t...

Well, I can translate the email, that's no problem. I guess I should have made my question clearer. What the person wants to know is whether or not there is a book on fusing in French. And if there isn't, it'd be nice to refer them to someone who does speak French that can help answer any specific ...
