Re: Designing a new studio
Marty, my cold shop is missing a very serviceable item: it's lacking a cold-working table with shallow sides, rubber matting, with a built in drain, for washing, rinsing, and angle grinding. Bullseye at Portland have one and use it with their Suhner rotifera; another tool to die for. Might also want...

Great!! info. But please be clear: quatz vs quarts; alumina vs aluminum. Lots of confusion could arise.

Randy, spot on.. My husband doesn't' understand why I go to bed reading Charles's dictionary...such a wealth of info. A tome for glass. So much there. But for a a more recent vernacular, it would be useful for definitions for currant usages for glass terms. It's surely a problem across various arts ...

A first iteration in English, followed by translations, would save time, I think.
Terms and meanings as they are actually used is a great idea. Brad has gone a long way already.

Angela's book is great; a fairly thorough compilation and synthesis of her PhD thesis work. Lots of nuggets there. The CD is a tome to wade through that would be of interest to dedicated casters.

Re: Lap Grinder
Take a look at ASW's 18 and 24" flat laps. The 24" one I have has given me no problems for 8 years now, and disks are easy to change (unlike some brands). Water comes up the center. For quality, get disks from HIS, not ASW. A friend has the 18"; delightful.

Bob I can't believe they wouldn't find a quiet place for this stack of books. They have a lovely spirit, and would be a special surprise when visitors come upon them. that is, of course, if you would possible want to let them go. I was looking at images of Ron's boxes yesterday. I miss his creative ...

Re: Edges on Bowls
Talk to the people at Covington. A rociprolap machine is not what you want. A flat lap machine is what is usually used to achieve a flat lip that is parallel to the base. Also check out ASW flat lap machines in California, and flat lap disks by HIS Glassworks, as well as their informative videos. So...

Bob, it's such a beautifully rich and quiet piece! The texture and design seem to exude good feelings about home and craft and life. No wonder it sold so quickly. Congratulations to Liesbeth on this new venture. Hope you tow do more together.

Babette, you might want to send Bob an email. Maybe he would have some insight. The paleolithic horse I made in his class is as special as the piece you expanded upon to make, and hopefully your piece will find a home on a wall in your house.

Re: Cave Art
Babette: It sure looks and sounds like incompatibility with white. Nice piece. You could try blast away the cracks if they aren't all the way through, and pumice. Or cut up the piece in sections and re-assemble leaving out the cracked areas.

Re: US equivalent for Keramicast
Cynthia, thanks for the tips and reminders! We met at BCon at the pate de vere and casting conference and talked a bit about mold making. Everything you said resonates. It's a bit of work (and fun) to instill or re-instill casting and mold making details back into the brain, after not having done an...
