Stainless Steel Mold - Oven?

Hi - I have a new SS mold. Can I heat it in my oven instead of my kiln on order to get it hot to apply kiln wash? Any fumes I should worry about?

Drilling pendant lamp

When drilling a hole for a pendant lamp on my drill press, should I drill with the solid base down or up? Does it matter?
If I drill with the base up, any ideas on how to get water on the bit so as to not overheat? My sink is no where near my drill press.

Thanks,
Stacey

I want to thank Nancy for her heart felt reply, even though I still have yet to hear back from her after our talk about the mold. After contacting a vendor three times and not hearing back, you begin to wonder, though. Perhaps I just caught her and the other vendor on a bad day. That happens. That s...

Just received my catalog here in MD. Would LOVE to see MORE photos of how the glass, molds, etc look when fired and used in different ways. I am sure there are plenty of people on this board who would "allow" their work to be photographed!!

Sure, I can name them...didn't want to "attack" them in public, but since you ask, it was Future Forms Molds and UgotGlass.

Unresponsive Sponsors

Just wanted to say a word about some of the sponsors on this site....they don't return phone calls or emails. I have contacted one company three times, and another one twice. I actually spoke to one woman and she said she'd call me right back. When I talked to her she said "didn't you email me?...

thanks for the photos/links. I was interested in a more organic free form type of painting on glass, not a traditional stained glass look. Any photos/suggetions for that style?

thanks!

Share Painting Photos?

Hi,
I am a painter and wanted to try painting fused glass. Would anyone share their photos so I can begin to see what is possible with paint (not frit ).

Any ideas/suggestions are welcome as well.

thanks,
Stacey

Critique Section

Hi, I think the thread on critique has been very interesting. There are many levels of fusers on here, and some of the new people are so excited at their first project (you all remember that feeling) that they just want to say "look what I did!". That said, I wanted to pull out a suggestio...

Firepolish

Hi, I looked on the archives for info on firepolishing and didn't see what I was looking for.

Is there a schedule for firepolishing? Do you bring it up to temp ASAP and then anneal? Do you need to anneal slowly or can you just turn the kiln off if doing small cabs?

Thanks,
Stacey

Does anyone know where to get the 3Mâ„¢ Diamond Files and pads without having to order them on the internet. Does someplace like Home Depot or Lowes carry them? Or should I go to a specialty shop of some kind?

Thanks,
Stacey

combing/frit?

Hi,
I am a newbie. I was wondering if a similar technique to combing could be achieved by laying down stripes of frit powder and "combing" them prior to capping and fusing?

If anyone has any other helpful tips on how to use powder, I'd appreciate it.

thanks!
