Re: Attaching zinc or brass channel to picture frame

I want to make fused glass picture frames, how on earth do I ... attach a zinc or brass channel to the back of the glass frame so that I can use an easel back? I attach the glass insert & channels with 30 min clear epoxy. Don't feel dumb. When I first switched from soldered frames to fused ones...

Re: Power loss - strange thing with kiln

Marty mentioned that the Skutt and Jen-Ken do not have power switches, so I would consider throwing the circuit breaker when your not firing. Tony My 3 Jen-Kens each have power switches; but throwing the circuit breaker can never be wrong. From his post I think Jen-Ken is working hard to be a relia...

Re: Questionable: Gallery starts wholesaling to other galler

When I delivered work this week one of the owners mentioned they were "wholesaling to other galleries now." I signed a contract with the gallery (consignment) and there was no mention that they would wholesale. Two things come to mind: You're delivering your work so you're saving shipping...

Ellen, I think if you check your Orton manual you'll find it will resume heating up to the top temp in the ramp where the ciruit is interrupted. What I would do is throw the circuit breaker, manipulate the glass, then put the breaker back on. My kiln would just start re-heating back up where it left...

Stacey, I usually go 250F/hr thru the bubble forming temp - I have a short hold at 1050F then go 250/hr up to 1300, then bump it higher up to the top temp. Or go low and put a short hold in too; whatever works best for you. I don't have your kiln but do have the 41" Jen-Ken that's a glass brick...

Thanks for all of the suggestions, folks. I just realized I left out something important. LOL. This guy charged his purchase to his credit card...... Re: Drop-downs

:-k When that happens, you add the glass to the scrap bin and plan on doing some high-fire plates and bowls someday. Ron I have what I call a fritalator. Sort of like a large hammer that fits into a pipe that has fritable glass inside. I think Carol posted a picture of hers a while back. ...

Drop-downs

charlie holden wrote: Without that much extra glass to counterweight the glass in the center of the mold, the glass will often fold up and fall through the center hole.
And, when that happens, any neat tips how to flatten it at all evenly? I have a piece that looks like a canoli with air for the filling

Judith, I agree that this needs to be posted. This must be one of the fastest ways to get the point out to the fusing community. So sorry this was done to you! Red English muffle turned a brilliant shade of transparent orange for me a couple times (and I wanted red  ) It was a tack fuse program.

I don't know if it was just that one sheet or if it always does it but it's worth a try.

Dee, Although the vent holes were clear of kiln wash, was the mold elevated off the shelf to allow the air to escape between the mold and the shelf? That could be a solution if it's a mulite shelf and not fiber. I usually elevate slumping molds with 1" posts; then place the glass blank on and c...

The 2 things that made a difference for me were: Changing to Bullseye kiln wash and A max temp of 1150F with whatever hold works. What did the bottom surface look like after fusing? If the kilnwash isn't that good and not cleaned off well, the slump won't take the surface back to shiny. Hope this he...

Cliff,

Hold it at an angle so you're peering across the surface; and look at the edges, too. When you catch the angle right you can see one side has depth and the other (iridized) side reflects.

Clear as mud?

I agree with Lani - it's all been done sometime before. We are in a cyber frontier right now and info is unbelievably accessible. I learn every day from someone on this wonderful board; and as I can, I try to repay the favors. It is everyones' choice whether to share their ways or not; the cyber spa...
