Looking for suggestions for booth displays
I am looking for suggestions for booth displays. My work consists of a variety of pieces - some 2 dimensional hanging pieces, some bowls and other pedestal pieces, along with some pendants, pins, and earrings. I need a display that can be transported in a single large SUV (I've got a roof rack too),...

All you weather wimps!
I gotta laugh.
My kilns are in my garage.
It was 9 BELOW zero Fahrenheit (for you non-celsius junkies out there) the night before last.
I've not had a problem, in fact it is kinda nice keeping the garage somewhat warm and making glass at the same time.

two things
You put the 1/4" strips on edge the "flipped the whole thing over." I assume you did this on a clear base - that's what it looks like in the pic. So am I right in assuming you glued the strips down or did you do the assembly on the board and then capped it. I've had problems with fuse...

It depends upon the glass!
If you are talking about machine rolled Spectrum or some of the machine rolled Uroborous then the comparison might be valid, but much of the more interesting Bullseye and Uroborous glasses vary in thickness (and so weight) for a given size sheet. One thing you might be seeing is that many of the Int...

Out out damn spot!
I have molds like that. My kiln shelf even does that.
Just work at getting a uniform coat over every place that you can see and smoothing it flat. The "bare spots" will be covered even though it doesn't look like it.

What kind of bullseye
Is it Bullseye fusible? Are you mixing fusible and non-fusible Bullseye. I have some green cathedral non-fusible bullseye that devits. Charlie's right though. Glass devits sometimes even when you regularly pay homage to the kiln gods . . .

Fire Polish
Firepolishing depends upon the kiln type, depth, size and finish. I firepolish in my Jen-ken at 1425 for 7-10 minutes when I what a smoothly rounded surface without too much shape loss. I will go to 1415 for 3-5 mintes when I want to preserve the crisp top edge. These numbers don't work at all on my...

Dymax
Try http://www.dymax.com.
When dymax works, it is a solid bond. It can be tricky to use. The accelerator needs to be applied in a very thin coat and then allowed to dry. Then light clamping (I use clothes pins) for a couple of hours.

Other vendors are problematic as well
In the past I've had similar problems with another vendor (from Chicago if you want to guess), although to their credit they have always resolved issues very promptly. I've also heard of similar problems with vendors in other parts of the country. I don't mind if they make a mistake, as long as they...

Chasing Markets
I agree with Terry. It is a terrible idea to go chasing markets because you can never really get ahead of the curve and end up doing nothing that you want to own up to. In part I'm curious about the geographic market. Here in the upper midwest my ability to sell anything at the upper end has just be...

What's selling? Survey Says!
I've had trouble selling bowls or plates here in the Midwest. I've had great success selling my pendant beads which account for about 85% of my sales for the past season. I was just wondering, in a totally unscientific way, what have you seen selling this past season? It would be helpful to know wha...

I just say no . . .
I use to donate to auctions at our local art center. The last time I did so, one of my bowls got placed up on the stage between a a leaf blower and a donated Nordic trak. The bowl went for wholesale. After 5 years of giving to this auction, I did not receive one lead or even one follow-up call on my...

Anyone Gong to Be at the UAHC Convention In Mpls?
Subject line says it. I'll be in booth 423. Is anybody else from the board going to be there?

Evenheat Kiln Shelves
My 3 part shelves drove me crazy. The solution I came up with was to order two 20x20 inch shelves from Ed Hoy and then bevel trim the corners so they would both fit in the kiln. At least now I can do two large pieces at once! A fuser that I know uses refractory board, but says that it eventually bre...

There is a reason they call them professionals
I am lucky enough to have a wonderful brother-in-law who is a professional commercial photographer. I tried week after week of getting photographs with mixed results. I finally spent and afternoon with my BIL and came away with a dozen photographs that made my work look BETTER than it does in realit...

Measures of success
It depends, of course. I've had shows where I didn't make back the entry fee, much less the travel costs or time. People would look in the booth and sort of cluck when they saw my prices. That one was a failure no matter which way you read the book. But it is more subtle than that. I want to make en...
