Kelly, I love Inspiration and NoTime. Inspiration's pattern pleases my eye with the color and flow. Great cold working. No time has wonderful color and design. Harmony in the blance of your elements. Works for me. Ann

quiet compressor ?

Hi guys. I need to replace a compressor in my dental lab and am looking for a compressor that is not objectionably loud, sturdy and doesn't have to be a giant. I would think a thirty or 40 gal compressor would suffice. Does anyone use such an animal and is pleased with its performance or knows of on...

sand

Here is another question to go along with the others. Did you wet the sand or use some kind of binding agent in order to form your design? The reason I ask is because I have a blank that has texture on the back (or bottom) and want to have texture on the top. Coudn't figure out how to fire the top t...

in the hanging spirit....

I think the posts by travis on the cable hanging system is what the doctor ordered on a panel the has been roaming around in my head for several sleepless night now. You all know how it is when you get an idea and it just goes on and on and on. My idea is to have a clear float panel about say 24&quo...

Johnathan, Viewed your pics and have a few comments. Your piece titled Circus has a really handsome fused element. I have not done a pot melt or combing yet so I don't know what it is but it turned out really well. Whisical has great colors. I can see tiles like this used as design elements in a ove...

Thank you ALL for your great responses, I really appreciate your sharing. I am looking forward to the day when I can give the same kind of quality advice to others. I've been working in warm glass for about two years, mostly weekends, and still feel like a newbie. Ann

Hi all. I followed the instructions on building a photo booth, using bits and pieces form several contributors, and was well pleased with the results of my first sample photos. I am using a Pentax point and click camera and the auto zoom that it has appears to be adequate for my larger items such as...

a visit to harbor freight

Found out there was a Harbor Freight 40 miles away so I paid it a visit. I love walking through a real live catalog. I found two items that may be helpful. I am making SIMPLE stands these days, saving the intricate ones for Dick Kolpack. I found a powder coating system. Does it work? I really though...

ebony and ivory

I was talking to a wood turner and was told that wood from a holly tree is very very much like ivory in appearance, white with little grain. I agree with Tony, inlaid in ebony a white accent would be awsome and work well with wood. Ann

scum

Cathy, My first project also had the cloudy ring around the design elements. My elements were fused to a colored back and capped with clear. It was a great piece, for my first, but the scummy edges around the design elements drove me crazy. I had not cut them with a ring saw, because I didn't have o...

shortwave uv light

Are the lamps that people use for detecting repairs in antiques the same short wave uv lights needed for detecting the tin side? I thought I had read it in the archives but couldn't find it. Thanks Ann

float/slump/devit?

I am still working on my design for a foundation's yearly award. I have my design and am going to present it in two formats. One clear bullseye with opaque design elements and the other on clear float with the design blasted. I have accomplished the bullseye and I ordered a 3/8" circle of float...

I used the leaf bail on a pendant and the person that bought it like the look of the bail and wear it as the right side of the piece. Never thought about that! Ann

My reply is to get the largest kiln you can afford. You obviously love glass and once you get into this it just takes over. You will outgrow a small kiln quickly and to me they don't provide the bang for the buck. (I am not into jewelry but larger pieces.) You may wnat to take the class first and us...
