Lydia, You can slump that back flat. It might has shrunk some but probally not. Question... is what you are calling a crack really a crack or an air bubble? Going to full fuse temp will not get rid of it, if it is an air bubble. If it is a crack, which I doubt that looking in a kiln for a moment wou...

Steve,
You are right. It is called Pyrolite and it costs $26 a tube from them. I asked the size and they said it was about the size of a tube of silicone.

Explode is a term we like to use.. but crack is probally a better term.. and I doubt it will hurt the kiln unless the kiln has feelings and it will get upset that it produces cracked unusable pieces.

Look in the tutorial for a topic on compatable glass and or COE.

You can mix rigidizer with the fiber paper and mold it to the shape that you want it and then let it dry.

The fiber paper turns black around 500° to 900°. The the binders are birnt out and everything is back to being white... if it cracks when it dries you are putting it on too thick. Put think coats on and let it dry between coats.. A lot of kiln wash is 5 parts water to 1 part wash.

Boy, this sounds like exact science. How close do you need to get for these measurements. How long will the product hold up in solution.. ie the shelf life. Maybe I want to use a whole 20 LB package to 6 gals of water and mix it all up at one time.. or do you add water to the 20 lbs till you get to ...

Very important.... when you push the pins in do not wiggle, that will make the holes larger. Just push straight in. Also, if you get a change... purchase new pins (or as Paragon calls them staples). The new staples are not softened by repeated firings and will go in easier and straighter and hence s...

recycled glass in Crete.... (Illinois)

I got an e-mail today on a different glass board that I am on.. it was from: "barbs" <barb_d_@webtv.net> Here is the message: hi, my name is Barb. Back in June of 2003 I moved from Dyer, Indiana to Salem, Ohio. I was a member of the Crete Lion Club. I transferred to the Salem Lions Club. R...

There is lots of glass there. Mark Rosenbloom is a blower, Lighthouse Glass, makes cast pieces. And there are other artist there. Do a google search on Art Glass in New Orleans. There also were some night galleries downtown.

Enjoy

No need to retro fit that one.. add a stand along controller and plug your kiln into the wall controller. You can get one from Skutt, Paragon, or other manufactures and there are people that also build them or get you the parts and directions and you can get the metal box and assemble it yourself. S...

Bingo.. that is it.. the thermocuple is fine.. Put your shelf back in and things will be fine.. the fiberboard will not get as hot as the shelf will so things fire cooler. The air in the kiln is still getting to 1500° which is what the thermoccouple is measuring. The difference is that since the fi...

Richard, I am looking at the wiring diagram for your kiln. It has 3 sets of elements and 2 relays. If the 3 elements come on then the 2 relays are working. The problem can be in the thermocouple or in the electricity. A thermocouple can have a creep and slowly go bad, but usually not a big jump at o...
