Fridge Magnets - Want mine?

I have some fridge magnets from early Warmglass exchanges. Maybe 75 or more of them. I've had them in a bowl for about 15 years and should probably get rid of them. If you're a newbie they can be informative and inspiring. Contact me and agree to pay postage and I'll send them to you. Or pick up in ...

Re: Frit colouring

The term 'enamels' is used for a number of different products. Things that are called 'enamels' can be transparent or opaque. Can require a low (1050°F) firing or a higher (>1300°F) firing. It's conceivable to color float frit with enamels. But I don't understand why you would want to. Why not just ...

Adhesives for securing frit and little glass components

I know people use a variety of adhesives when piling up powder, frit and cut-ups on a flat blank. Why do you do this? Is it to keep the stuff from moving while you pile it up, or when you move it to the kiln? Or does it actually add some stability during the firing process? I haven’t used glue to ho...

Re: Newbie questionabout kiln setting notation

Your suspicions are well founded. I don't get that schedule's logic, but maybe someone can suggest a reason to consider that schedule. Graham Stone's 'Firing schedules for glass' is a cover to cover read recommendation. Some of your questions would be answered by chapter six where he lists 'Advantag...

Spring panel

Fused BE colors on Tekta, silver stain and enamels. Panels for the other seasons are planned. Hence the odd hanging alignment to the left of the picture window.

HI Jen. Thank you for checking in. We could talk about AU women's swimming or something. They did well in Tokyo and in a time zone where their fans could actually watch it.

Smooshing Weights

Are flat iron griddles or 1/4 stainless steel plate suitable for using to press down glass in the kiln? Or will they spall and warp or something? The high end of the process is >1500F with a 30 minute hold. I don't want to ruin the metal just to find out its a bad idea. I can source some refractory ...

Frit size choices

When I layer glass for stained glass pieces, I fill in the gaps with powder. I buy the powder rather than try to make it, usually. It works. But I wonder if there would be any advantage to using a higher size frit. Would fine or larger work better? Some criteria I would consider are: Can a greater v...

Re: gasket material

The counterweight, if a coffee can, should have some vintage cachet. You can build one with a Costco or Kroger generic can that you have around, but best results are achieved if you eventually score an old Maxwell House or Hills Bros, Chock Full of Nuts.....you know what I mean.

Beeskeep Suncatcher

This is Bullseye Blue on top of Bullseye Reactive Ice. About 13" in diameter. The yellow and red are silver and copper stains on the reactive glass. The green is blue enamel on top of yellow stain. Its going to hang in a garden on a shepherd's hook.

Lady's Slipper

This is a new piece. Bullseye, Lambert's, Blenko glass. Lady's Slippers petals are fused and sandcarved Bullseye. The border has ramps (wild leeks from our region) made from flattened softdrink bottles that had lettering on their shoulders. http://burtglass.com/images/McLandrich_Ladys_Slipper_Web.jpg
