Those are great! Amazingly realistic. They look exactly like the Fresno Peppers I'm growing in my garden right now! Wonderful color and detail!

Re: MELT FUSED INTO CRACKLED PIECE
Hi Havi. How thick was the powder in the triangular crackle section? If I am understanding the description of your layup, and depending upon your initial firing speed, the uneven thickness of the glass could have contributed to the break. My approach would be to apply powder to the entire rectangle ...

Re: More about melts
Hi Havi. I always use a mixture of opaque and transparent glass in my melts. The opaques, especially light colors, seem to help in controlling flow and provides better color separation/distinction. The opaques also help eliminate some of the color shifts that happens with certain warm transparents a...

Re: Quick technical question
Les,
I am so sorry this piece is giving you fits. Your "magic" number is almost the same as mine when it comes to reheating difficult pieces. 50 degree ramp is maddening slow, but it works! Best of luck with this.

I really like the first piece a lot. The way light plays through the center section is very cool and the contrasting wisps are reminiscent of winter clouds. Nicely done!

Thank you...and thanks again Cynthia for your help trouble shooting the slumping issues. Actually, the color composition and design were true collaborations for Vonon and me. It was fun, and a great adventure to share

Thank you, Janet. It has been so interesting finding ways to incorporate into my pieces the techniques we learned at ob's workshop last fall. It's hard to believe that a year has already passed!

Re: Super Spray to fill holes
Hi Shereen,
I bought the stainless bar through OnLineMetals.com. I bought them in 3 ft and 4 ft lengths (for shipping) and then cut them down to the sizes I wanted. In addition to damming, they come in real handy for aperture and wire melt supports.

Re: Super Spray to fill holes
Hi Vonon, I agree that Super Spray will not give you the fill you need to heal these pits. I suggest filling them with frit/powder and firing to at least a contour fusing temp. I sympathize with the limitation your kiln shelf size imposes (I have this kiln too). It may not be relevant to this discus...

Re: Skutt Hotstart Pro versus Paragon Fusion 6
My 1st kiln was the Skutt HotStart Pro. It has been a workhorse for me and I've had no problems. I've used it regularly for about 8 years. Skutt gives great customer service, including technical assistance. I would suggest though that you seriously consider moving up to the Skutt Firebox 14 or the l...

Re: Upon the Mere - A New Bowl
Thank you all for your input! and kind comments! Vonon - It was so interesting to see how the edge turned out on this piece. Without my usual contrasting rim, you can look well into the layers. I very much like the effect and also that the the wire melt sections of the edge retain the textures of th...
