Try overlaying 1116 (transparent turquiose) on the 1234 (striking purple) You get a wonderful blue-purple. Expensive? Yes - but worth it to get such a beautiful color.

although two points might be considered:

1. How long will they hold up - how many firings can one expect?

2. They will not have as much weight (therefore strenght to hold position) as mullite so you will probably need to add some weight in the form of kiln bricks or something similar.

Bee Manufacturing, sold through CR Laurence. It is the green free standing one. Probably cost about $1500 or so with shipping, starting belts, etc. Next to my kilns, the one tool I use every day. Thanks to you all for the information. But my inquiring mind wants to know what makes the zinc toxic........its natural state? (In stained glass, we sawed zinc came all the time, breathing in the dust I'm sure.....)

Only when molten?

Galvanized steel in kiln?

We have been asked to fire glass on a galvanized steel form for someone in the area. I seem to remember a caution/warning on firing this metal in the kiln, but can't find any hard facts on the subject. Anyone out there aware of any caustions/dangers?
