Re: Denver Kiln?

So you've been given a free kiln with a retail price of about $3000, and it holds a 24" shelf. You don't mention the size of the Denver... Things I'd have to consider, if this were my choice. How much studio room do I have? How often do I work larger than a 24" shelf allows? How much elec...

Denver Kiln?

I have been offered a Denver KL-50DD 12 inch deep kiln, I believe it is all fiber top & sides and it looks very clean. I know nothing about these kilns, does anyone have experience good or bad please? The story is: last month I was driving down from Canada to California and I found a 2 year old-...

Re: New colour for bubble.

Hi Haydo!

Is Truth three dimensional? At first glance it looks flat but as I look closer I see a green stringer behind? Is there a metal inclusion? Can you post more photos? More Truth please?

Re: cutting glass for mold

I may be wrong, and please correct me if I am. Because I live life on the edge I am constantly thinking about how much I can get away with... Regarding slumping my conclusion is if you have a large mold you are slumping into you can overlap more. I did overlap an inch (all around) on Bullseye's larg...

Re: transparent vs opaque?

Done deal, I did it. When it came down to it I could not put "cover up" paint on my glass. The piece is back in the kiln with white powder & frit on the back side, fired face up. I will flip & fire in the end. Nothing is simple. Thank you Bert!

transparent vs opaque?

I just pulled a large 16" by 32 inch piece from the kiln. I built the piece on 1/16 inch fiber paper with one layer of sheet glass and a very thin layer of transparent powders. It is a water scene with salmon swimming. When I pulled the piece from the kiln it still had the white fiber paper stu...

Re: another note on slumping

I get it Cynthia, thank you. I will give up on this piece. If this happens again I will flatten it right off and deal with the likely possibility that it did stretch and change the density of color...a learning lesson.

Re: another note on slumping

Thanks everyone! The piece is submitted and they either love it or leave it and REALLY some people will never notice the tumor. It was made with all opaque glass and it does not look to be stretched so if it does not sell I will pancake it and re-slump. BUT am I correct in thinking that it is imposs...

another note on slumping

On my previous post "how to create a flat bottom on the slump with a ball mould?" I got some great advice and suggestions, thank you all for your time and generous help. Now I have an interesting situation that has come up with that same 22' round bullseye (ball) mold...like many of you I ...

Re: how to create a flat bottom on the slump with a ball mou

Thanks Jeff but this blank has quite a bit of design on the back side, done with powders and I hate to grind any of that off. Also because this bowl will be pretty large wouldn't I have to create a large flat area to get it to sit well? Regarding mold vs mould...I just got back from a road trip to B...

how to create a flat bottom on the slump with a ball mould?

I am using Bullseye's largest round ball mould, it is 22" in diameter. I have heard there is a way to set fiber paper or fiber board inside the round mould so when the glass slumps the bottom of the bowl flattens eliminating rock & roll? Has anyone done this, and if so how is it best done? ...

Re: Go and stop and go? Or just go?

In an earlier post regarding this topic there was a reference to Boyce Lundstrom. Boyce is a legend and he is a maverick in the glass world. I had the opportunity to take a workshop with him a few years ago and I think I have almost recovered. At the time of this workshop he was just starting to dev...

Re: I think I've got it!!

I agree with you Haydo; "It's all about nutting things out all of the time, keeping busy without being bogged down. IT'S THE HUNT" I think the challenge is what I like about glass, I have an idea and then I try to come up with a plan to create it. When it works I'm riding high. So I have t...
