OK chem folks. What is the ingredient in windex that leaves the after fired scum? Is it ammonia? If so, do the no ammonia glass cleaners work for us. Does anybody use Sprayway, Sparkle or Nostreek? I think the whiting or maybe cerium in some fast drying matrix isn't a bad idea. Don't want to reinve...

Dee, It's gorgeous. I've been wanting to try some PMC, but haven't gotten up the nerve, yet. I'd like to take a class on using it. How long have you been using it? Nita nita - nancy tang did the piece - wish i could take credit ;) i've only played with it a tad... and i think nancy teaches it - che...

Re: side and top elements

i've searched the archives for this but couldn't find a definitive answer.... i'm looking to buy a new kiln. i want a top loading kiln but i'm unsure about whether i should have a top element only or top and side elements. i do small fusing (inch or less) for jewellry and i am concerned the side el...

For the clay molds I've made, I waited till after the bisque firing to put the kilnwash on. Since a typical bisque firing will be in the neighborhood of 1800 f kilnwash won't be very effective after that temp and will have to be redone. Drill any vent holes before firing the clay, much easier. Very...

Re: website/gallery conflicts?

I just read Milon Townsend's Making and Marketing Better Artwork and wanted input from the WGers on the potential conflict between selling (at full retail) on your website and selling through galleries. My preference is to use the site purely as a referral, but I do have retail prices listed. Has a...

This is not a firing schedule. I have been using this schedule for many upon many firings.. it is the thin fire. Have had lots of these bubbles once switching to it. maybe it's time to switch to a good shelf primer - be shelf primer has high recommendations tho' i still use the hotline hifire until...

Funny I had the same problem last week. I had a gigantic bubble using the new thinfire paper. I also used red for the bottom piece. Did you do anything with the bubble red? I only have myself to blame... I know that the new thin fire does cause bubbles but before it only happened on this pieces of ...

Yep, it's all the way in there. I built a little 'hole' in the pieces of dichro I stacked up to support it in place. A few other ones still tilted as the glass melted but this one stayed right where it belonged. I've got a few other ideas about how to make it work everytime but need more play time....

Sorry, I should have clarified that; I used transparent glass, not opaque. When I kiln cast I usually use cullet in transparent colors. I really like transparent glass; I don't mind some air bubbles, I kind of like the element of chance they provide as long as they aren't on the surface... but so m...

Re: Grand Opening of Web Site

I know it looks a bit strange because many sites lack the ordering information altogether or put it to the side somewhere. My target market includes people in their 60s and 70s, shopowners in their 50s, and others who may not be used to purchasing over the Internet. I tried to make the site as user...

Re: Ouch! Does smart business=evil artist?

Wow. Recent conversations with other artists about my patent pending process has made me question my worth as a good human being/nice artist! I'm secretly hoping for moral support here, but really, truly want honest feedback. I love creating work, but I can only continue to create if I sell it. No ...

Re: New Dichroic Piece - experiment

Here's a piece I made recently in which I embedded a cubic zirconia and some fine silver balls... this was sort of fun. Getting the CZ to stay and not fall over was tricky and I made a few that didn't come out with the CZ standing up so well but hey.... These are the stones I have to embed in PMC s...
