Re: 3D printing with glass powder

"Would you accuse Rodin, Brancusi, Degas, Henry Moore, and Botero of making "Thomas Kinkade dreck?" " No, because my bias and prejudice compels me to view those fine artists in a different light. I know I dislike Kinkade and Hirst, but have no problem with much of Warhol. As I sa...

Re: 3D printing with glass powder

The AP community is divided on 3D art and printing. There are those that say for an object to be 3D, it must be made by an artist's hands. Others say that artists have used tools for millennia and the computer is simply the next tool. I'm not sure how I feel about it. Warhol and Hirst had/have art f...

Re: which slip for molds?

Tru dat, Rosanna. I've heard of people using Raku clay - that the grog makes a more sturdy mold, but I've used low fire clay for my molds.

Re: fusible yoga decals? (ohm maybe or namaste)

JoanG,
Well, you'll have to buy an HP black and white printer, then laser printer paper from Bell Decals. Once you've made the investment, you can print your own decals. This is what I do, and the printer was paid for within 6 months by the glass profits. Just saying...

Re: aesthetic versus practival side of hanging fused glass

I mount my pieces on a white backer board; the board is then framed in a nice frame I got from a thrift store for a dollar or two. I use a lot of transparent/semi-transparents and like a true color-read for the glass. Whatever floats your boat.

Re: burning off metals

Not to ask a stupid question, but you're sure it's not aluminum, right? If it is, that would be a nasty surprise around 1000 degrees.

Re: Replace broken piece?

If the pieces are big enough, maybe you could piece it together and re-fuse it. Not for free (maybe charge for re-melting the glass), not free shipping, and tell them it's being re-made and won't look exactly like the other piece. This has been my policy for customers who drop what they bought. Don'...

Re: turquoise opal 96 question

If the glass was clean and without blemish, I don't think that is what caused the bubble. I see lumps around the legs. So you layered the glass around the cat's booty, right? If there was a gap there and you used too much glue, it's possible when the glue burned off the sooty gas migrated to the gap...

I have not tried Stainless Steel because everyone has told me it will crack the glass once it's room temperture. But, try it. You may learn something.

Weiss Judaica

I'm looking at buying Menorah candle cups (silver colored, probably aluminum and very affordable) from Weiss Judaica. Has anyone had experience with the company? I tried Rite Lite, but saw only brass (and a much higher price). I placed this here because the employee of Weiss said the hole on the bot...

What kind of paint should I use?

Hi, I would like some information please. I enjoy marbling fabric and paper, and I assume the basic process can be done with glass. However, since I have never used glass paint, I want one that has the consistency of airbrush paint, and that can produce the secondary colors from the blended primarie...

Thank you so much for your answers. Yes, Suzan, I plan to test a few of the cut pieces just to see what happens. Maybe that will be my "technique." Ha. Dolores, the Pro Slicer states that one should use an oil lubricant. What type do you use? The type sold by the Eloxite company? My tile s...

Glass Cut by my Tile Saw

So, I took your advice, went to Harbor Freight, found a sweet little tile saw for $30, made a loaf of glass, and began cutting last night. This morning when I looked at the cut glass, I noticed that is was all... I don't know... looked way devitrified. Way, way matte finished. So, when I use these g...

My kiln is 9" X 11" by about 11" in height (actually 9" in height, the roof is pitched, it looks like a dog house). It is an Olympic front-loading kiln, with elements on the left, right, and back wall. It can reach 2300 Fahrenheit. I had to have one that used 110 because I found ...

Pot Melt on Kiln Floor

As January approaches, I am preparing myself for some down time (aka, have fun and not worry about producing so much stuff). I really like the pot melt idea, but have a small kiln, and as a result, my shelf is ultra small. I have been using the floor of my kiln to tack fuse pendants, and have had su...
