This reminds me of the problem I had earlier this year that we discussed on this thread: http://www.warmglass.com/cgi-bin/wgarch ... read=79181

The consensus was that is was an incompatibility related to the pinks and cranberries.

Steve - yes I took it out of the mold after the 1st time and then re-leveled it for the 2nd fire. I look forward to what y'all have to see after you see it - it's HUGE ! I think that if you take something out of a mold, put it back in the mold and refire - that the relationship of the glass to the ...

Re: I hate to even ask it but... huge bubble

Fired 3rd time - still in slump mold ( could that be the key to my madness?) to bring the paint to glossy red. Result - enormous flying crane over mt Kilamanjaro... Did you take it out of the mold after the 2nd firing, and then put it back into the mold again? Or just leave it in and refire? Steve

You could try cutting a square out of the center of a 12" piece of ceramaguard, or several layers of J-100.

This would give you something that looked like this:

My kids made a couple of dinner plates for themselves, and ate on them contuously for about two years, going through the dishwasher each time, without cracking.

They did show some wear and tear as the years went by (as will ceramic plates). Just make sure you anneal them well.

Yes. My melt was only slightly thicker than 1/4" thick, so it didn't expand much when the rim was added. I had hoped it would expand a little, which is why I thought I could get away with it. But, yes, if you have a thicker melt, it should work. Charlie, did you make the rim inner diameter larg...

Nice work. Simple but elegant. Congratulations.

Makes me want to try some micas.

Did you use hand cut resist, or photo resist?

Randy, I did this very same thing once without a bottom piece. In spite of impressive rim cutting (if I do say so myself) when it finished fusing there was one spot on the diameter that had a 1/16" space, about 1 1/2" long. While I was pondering what do to do fill the space - it cracked at...

Paragon Controller Overfiring

Anybody have any insights: Programed my Paragon GL22-AD with DTC 600 controller to fire to 1550 F. The alarm is set to go off at 1700F. I went out and came back, and the alarm was going off. The program was cooling down as it was supposed to. No error message on the controller, but it was clear that...

Two quick things . . . fire on kiln wash, less texture to begin with, and sandblast before slumping for an even smoother finish. Brock I agree with Brock. I think the rough texture comes from the initial firing on fiber paper, not the slump firing. I get a smoother finish with a nicely kilnwashed s...

Cynthia,

Thanks for the comments on my rack :D

I used to tie them with raffia, but I like the rack better.

I agree on the pricing.

I have one. I like it. Got it from Kingsley North.

High fire pieces in an enclosure make for good use of scrap.

I sell quite a few coaster sets, and many people particularly remark on how much they like the rack. Particularly if it is for a gift. So, I've only been selling them with one. Aftosa carries them. http://www.clearwaterglass.com/images/CoasterDoubleIridPlaid.jpg I vote for the rack. Steve ps. "...

In the late 1930s, Moshe Rabinowitz fled from his native land of Germany. He sold all of his assets, converted it to gold, then had five sets of gold false teeth made. When he arrived in New York, the customs official was perplexed as to why anyone would need five sets of gold teeth. "We Orthod...
