Re: Replace broken piece?
So I finally received the photo a few moments ago. My response was that it's obvious there was quite an impact to the piece so I can't take responsibility for it. I've offered to remake it and ship it, and quoted my regular price to do so. Thanks for all the great advice!

Re: spreading glass
Do the geometric shapes cover the entire surface? If so, then they make up your second layer and you should be fine. If you just want them to be a design element on the top, I'd use thin glass (for the accents) but you may wind up with a hump in the middle, which wouldn't work well for coasters. Pro...

Re: Replace broken piece?
Thanks everyone; this has been really helpful. I emailed the assistant saying I need photos of the broken piece so "I can learn from it." Sent it yesterday evening and have yet to hear anything. Depending on what it looks like, I may consider a refund but personally, I know it didn't have ...

Replace broken piece?
I need some advice, please. I've been selling my work for about 11 years and this is a first for me. I was at a show last weekend where a customer bought two of my pieces. Since she wanted both, she asked if I'd give her a price break. I've never done that before but wanted to make the sale so I too...

That charcoal spot looks exactly the same as the one time I used white glue between my glass.

Re: Kiln wash 'crawling' on shelf.
If these shelves don't hold up to an initial firing (which I can't see why they won't), they'll be wasted anyway, so why not just fire them and see? One of my smaller kilns is a funky size so I buy old pizza stones whenever I see them at garage sales. They're usually covered in grease stains but I j...

Looks to me like they should be durable shelves:

Re: LIQUID GLASS................CMC.............Alternatives
I did some experiments once with a thickening product I had called Konjac Glucomannan powder. I mixed it with water and glass powder and squeezed it out of a hole in a small plastic baggie. It was the consistency of toothpaste and held its shape very well when fired. So I think cornstarch might be w...

Re: Molds are there better Molds?
Back to the original question: I think you're working too hard with your molds. I bought several of my molds 10 years ago. Applied 3-4 coats of kiln wash and air dried. I've never recoated any of them, except for stainless molds. I never slump over 1150°; perhaps you're slumping too hot if your glas...

I fire 4-6 times on a shelf before recoating. I washed my molds 10 years ago when I bought them and have never recoated them.

This is just one reason why I love WG so much!
I've never even used my ball mold but I know when I do, I'm armed with all sorts of great to-dos and not-to-dos!

For $7 a "glass", it doesn't seem worth the labor. Why not just buy them, and then you can devote your time to making art!

Paul's book is a good reference:

On some thick pieces I had that couldn't go back in the kiln, I worked my way up to a 3000 grit with wet/dry sandpaper and lots (and lots!) of elbow grease.

It sounds like you fused a two layer blank first, and then added details? And if so, what was the first schedule for firing the blank? How big is this piece?

I think they're too intriguing and have too much potential to be simply regarded as paperweights. I love your first example, and am guessing the second photo is an attempt that didn't work out. It's the grouping that grabs me; I can see them displayed together, in their various stages of evolution, ...

SCORE! I was in Berkeley Sunday and stopped at Diaso. They had eight sifters so I bought all of them, at a buck-fifty each.
The guy at the register told me they'll order stuff if you've got the barcode, which I do. Let me know if anyone's interested and I'll send it.

Re: New Spectrum Papyros Kiln Shelf Paper
I've always been hesitant to reuse my Thinfire, even when it appears to remain intact. I worry that I'll disturb it when putting the new piece of glass on the shelf and end up with glass sticking. Dana W. When I was using Thinfire on a regular basis, I could easily get two, and sometimes three firi...
