Re: SiC

Hi Jackie, My blaster is loaded with 120 SiC. I'd heard the 220 is so fine it just goes everywhere and has a tendency to cloud the chamber more. I'm sure Tony is far better versed than me on this. I should be doing the piece next week so I'll probably want to snag a blast at that time. Another lunc...

Re: kiln wash & Etching cream

I know a few months back there was a post about using etching creme to remove kiln wash. I have a panel that is tacked fused on top 17" x 14". It was the 4th of 5 panels and it picked up kiln wash. I scrubbed, not much luck. I put the etching creme on wash off fired it on thin fire back t...

Re: Pot Melt with Iridized

[quote="Larry Lunsford"]What are the do's and dont's r.e. putting iridized glass in with a pot melt? I know that fusing iridized to iridized doesn't work well. Will iridized in a pot melt also cause problems? one thing i've found when using irid at high temps and then slumping later is the...

Re: kiln wash problems

I switched from the hotline to CRLoo's kilnwash, supposed to be same formulation as Bullseye, and have had every shelf wash crack and stick. I mixed it 50/50 about the texture of milk, not cream, and using hake brush applied x-I several times and placed on the kiln lid to dry. The sticking is mainl...

Re: The Copyright issue, again

I met a very interesting artist this evening at our local arts guild meeting. She told me she had a website, so I went to see what she had to offer. Besides some fantastic computer generated Fractal Art, I think she has a very imformative copyright statment on her page. Click on the copyright link ...

Re: Technique Ownership - A Question of Ethics

I would like to initiate a discussion about Technique Ownership. I don't want it to be a controversial topic, but one that is thought provoking and will establish some commonly-agreed-to guidelines for the rest of us to use in the future. After the discussion dies down, I will try to summarize the ...

Dee, that's not right. Put on the tile blade that came with the unit and see what that does for you. You will see increased chipout, but the cutting should be much faster. I made a mistake a while back and bought a narrow kerf lapidary blade and burned it out very quickly. I think the problem was t...

Did you say "cutting time back to 15-20 min per 6.25" cut with the minimal chipping"? That isn't right. You should be able to do a 6" cut in well under a minute. Did I misunderstand you? Tony nope, that's what it is - 15-20 min per cut for a 6.25" wide slab - has been as lo...
