Re: Coldworking a drop ring vase - help!

Wow! Thanks Cynthia! I think I will try this on the edged of my pieces...before using cerium to polish. It makes sense!

It would help if you posted a photo of the molds.

Re: Kiln Shelf Material

I have a 25 inch by 42 inch Dyson shelf in my Denver kiln, this kiln has fiber sides and a fiber lid. Yes it does take forever to cool down, but the shelf is smooth and stable and practically indestructible. I never heat it up AFAP, at the most I go 400*F an hour. Another negative is that this shelf...

3 stage deep slump, my first solo attempt

I took Karl Harron's "The Perfect Vessel" class last August and it took me a year to attempt it at home. It was definitely easier to do with a single mold in the kiln, not to mention a more controlled environment. As far as the design goes, I have been working on a series using wafers I ma...

Re: Kachina Bowls

Thank you all for the positive feedback! It was much needed, I entered both of these bowls in a show last month and they were both rejected. I will keep plugging on!

Kachina Bowls

Two new bowls, both are 22 inch diameter, system 96 glass. The turquoise and black one (lower bowl) has an irregular edge, made by placing 10 large powder wafers on top of 10 turquoise green slices of glass (shaped like pizza slices) Then those ten "slices" were placed on one large single ...

Re: firing problem

Did you purchase the kiln directly from the manufacturer, or a shop selling Glass

hire fire glue?

Is there any glue that will hold glass together at slumping temperatures? I slump at about 1100F.

Re: Deep vessel

Yes, I definately hope to make more of these deep vessels. I'm shopping around for long gloves, a heat resistant jacket and a face shield so I can open the hot kiln to manipulate the mold. In the meantime I have 3-4 bowls just about ready for the deep slump. I love that you can see both sides of the...

Deep vessel

I took a class back in August from Karl Harron. It was a great class and Karl is an excellent instructor. He will be teaching at Bullseye this spring. The irregular edge was a happy mistake, Karl calls it a wibble. The wibble works, I think.
