Re: Tack fused 24x24 not flat

vrinner your glass is only tack fused as indicated by the square edges.
Always full fuse glass and anneal slower and longer than all the tables show BECAUSE every kiln has variations.

Re: Brown spots

Recently? More likely the question is if you ever have used silver stain. It has the habit in my experience of returning to show itself in direct relationship to the time and value of the piece you are firing. Murphy's Law at its best.

Switch to Bullseye glass.
Yes you can fuse sheets together however inevitably there will be bits of 'stuff like studio dust' between the layers.

Re: Suction cups

Using suction cups on glass? Be sure to enjoy the almost but not invisible rings left on your fired glass that results from using suckers. Those marks inevitably show up in direct relationship to the importance of the piece you are making. Been there done that. Of course the ring marks only show up ...

Re: Drop out mystery

The faster the change in temperature and of course the more work that has gone into the piece, the greater the chance of a problem. Speed kills. There's temperature differentials where glass touches mold and when glass is in the air. Different colours of glass absorb heat differently. Brian Blanthor...

Nice work! A+
Positive you have a base on them.
Negative the base could be bigger to guarantee the vessel never tips over and breaks.
If they go to home with house cats, or wagging tails dog house, their survival is not guaranteed

Re: Kiln wash application

every particle of steam has something to condense on....one of those particulates. Want it thicker, mix a thicker batch. Want it to stick more add more clay. Your glass may stick too. The answer is heat, coat with brush, heat again and coat until the coating is to your liking. got brush lines? just ...

Re: Kiln wash application

pre heat the mold and brush it on in the kiln. I have never sprayed kiln wash I would not want the particulates in the air. Air brush particles can remain airborne and breatheable for an hour.

Re: Enamel & powder

What is the melting temperature of the enamel and the glass powder. One may exceed the preferred temperature range of the other.
Why not just use clear enamel powder?

Re: Slump schedules : Ripples, Twists & Grooves

There is no quick way to learn to fire a kiln as every kiln is different.
Take notes
Use test glass before 'an important piece of glass is used'.
Different colours will melt differently too.
I suggest reading Brad's books and all those of Boyce Lundstrom.

I would fire a little hotter than normal to compensate for the non movement of 5mm pieces as compared to 6mm.

4 sheets could give you a flat seam and flat sheet with a staggered overlap.

Re: Engraving signature on white fused glass art

Jim, the key is a 30 or 35,000 RPM Dremel. Slower speeds do not allow you to write smoothly. I use a small cylindrical bit held just like a pen for an almost invisible but still readable line. I sign the backs of earrings that way. Customers love it.

Re: Can I fix devit on tack fused tekta with powder?

a light sandblasting of the entire surface could remove it as well as provide a slightly textured look to the finished window after firing. Some of your devit could also have come from not drying out your kiln before firing. Moisture can do weird things. Particularly ocean moisture. It is cured by h...

Re: Dust cloud

Well when the coarse aluminum oxide grit I use gets down to about your size, 220 grit, I am looking to throw it out as all it does is creates a dust cloud. Without any mass to each tiny particle, they don't do any work. You've seen with your own eyes the party set inside your sand blaster all dancin...

Jewels? buy them from Optul in Europe. Yes, study the master of graphite molds and expect a learning curve. He took a year off blowing glass in order to develop his technology using graphite molds in which to cast the hot glass that he was ladling into the molds. https://contempglass.org/artists/ent...

if it is circuit board controlling the variable speed motor that has gone, it might be possible to have an electrician safely wire up a rheostat like you can use to control a ceiling fan speed and on and off.

Check the fuse again with a testing meter. They can look good and be non functional.
If you can't check it, replace it.
Bet it is the fuse
