Re: Lid Lifter
On wall behind kiln but with additional guide pulleys mounted on ceilings could be used. there are issues getting any of them set up, weights or pulleys. One is where are you tying the rope when the lid is open? Think however about how heavy a lid feels when it is closed. It gets lighter feeling as ...

Re: Lid Lifter
Those other lid lifter systems make you lift the lid exposing your hand and arm to all the heat that is bailing out of the kiln. The pulley system I showed earlier enables you to open a hot kiln without fried body parts. Make your own choice but I would not go for counterweights unless the lid weigh...

Re: Square/Squareup Credit Card processing
watching from Canada where we don't have square, what about the issue of chargebacks? Anytime a card is not present during a transaction and in Canada a pin number is not entered, you are at risk of a chargeback. Sure the money will be in the account only to possibly disappear later. The other issue...

Re: Do touching pieces fuse together or might there be a gap
aaaah well since our Brock is/was one of the best instructors going, I'd like to suggest the odds of success in terms of effort expended vs results won't be happening. A joint like that in order to be 'clear' would need to be polished. First of all try polishing a bevel on 3mm thick rippled surface ...

Re: Salvaging broken piece
speed kills
The crack is from the speed of firing owing to the differential of rapid heat absorption between the clear and opaque glass.

Re: Polishing with a sandblaster
It becomes a bit of a game as to how long you sit there with the piece in the sandblaster shooting dust at it vs how much time you'd spend polishing with a felt wheel and rouge or cerium.
Better to make moulds that don't require glass finishing work on the finished piece.

Re: CNC glass scoring from Thomas Carr
So how much glass can a good cutter cut if a good cutter can cut glass?
Before you go spending money on a fancy cutter, think of all the glass you are going to have to handle just to pay for it and then sell to currently non existent customers.
