Re: New Kiln - glass cracking

I'm with Cynthia. Looking at your piece the first thing I thought was, it stuck to the shelf. On your schedule, when using so many colors (as I frequently do) I think it's worthwhile to anneal at both the upper (920) and lower (720) BE ranges.

So glad that this worked out. It was interesting to hear about the thought process as you were going into the work. I think the end result is excellent, a good balance of the two techniques. I hope you'll collaborate more!

Call the place you bought it from if it's fairly new - should be under warranty. Not sure what the issue is

Re: textured iridescent

If you want to slump a single layer, you should be able to round the edges slightly in the slump. That is the way to keep the texture as well. If you put clear frit on clear irrid, you will not preserve the texture. It will vanish. If you put clear frit on the irridized side, it won't sink in - but ...

I am fascinated by the wall piece (athough it's all nice!) - is it a series of pyramids or is that an optical illusion?

Re: wholesalecrafts.com

I sell table ware priced from $5-60 and vases priced from $89-175 as well as a few other items. I have found it to be very cost-effective and I have a lot of repeat orders, and a fairly steady stream of new orders. Some are one-time deals, but not too many. It's definitely worth a shot! You need pro...

Re: Replace broken piece?

It's about what I'd expect a piece to look like - if I'd taken my studio hammer to it! Surely she did realize she was buying glass, not plastic??

Re: wholesalecrafts.com

I sell on WSC and I love it. I've been using it for a little over a year. It's a little tricky setting up your page, but they will help you as much as you need. Orders come to me by email and I've gotten some great accounts that way. You do have to go thru a jury process, and the 2nd year is about $...

Re: irredescence

There are lots of artists who've done work with the china painting lustres on glass for years - Higgins for example, and Avery Anderson. I have found them increasingly difficult to find, especially halo lustre. They work great on glass.

Re: large wall panel lighting

write to Mike Dupille - he has (I believe) used some back-panel LED lighting. Also look for architectural glass folks - they frequently have lighting issues.

Re: ISO Metal Spinner

Thanks, but the point is (1) I need one MUCH bigger than standard; and (2) I am trying NOT to jerry rig one. And no, I do not have any metal mfrs nearby.

ISO Metal Spinner

I have got to get some taller floral forms for my draped vases. The current jerry-rigged setup is not great - balanced on multiple other ceramic bowls and fiber blanket. Does anyone have any contacts? Thanks!

which slip for molds?

I took a lovely class at Vegas this year on making slip-casting molds. Now I find myself in a city with a pottery supply store but I don't have my notes. Does anyone know what kind of slip I need? Porcelain?

Barbara special ordered those as a one-time thing. i haven't found another commercial source for acrylic cleats. they're easy to make as long as you find someone who can cut plexi.

Jim, I'd use some fiberpaper in the bottom. every now & again, a pot splits and if you don't catch that in time, there's a lot of loose flowing glass that gets everywhere.
