yellow/violet is one, and also emerald green, fired coated side down. i used to use the violet for the same reason you like it, but i dont do it anymore ... i just use thin clear, no dichro. still creates depth, and much less expensive. emerald green is very transparent, but it is green green green,...

i'm one of those people using a tumble vibe (TV5), for cleaning off compound after polishing, not for achieving the initial shine. i use a foredom with felt buff and white compound to polish nichrome wire i've fused into dangle earrings. i put the earrings in the TV5 to clean gunk off. my tumbler is...

i dont know anything about bead-making, or the kilns for it. i've seen some for sale that are bead annealers ... look elsewhere for that info. i'm primarily in the jewelry production business. i produce a lot, and sell to stores, galleries, and museum shops. my primary work horse is a Cress kiln wit...

i ship everything Priority Mail. the postal service gives me (free) all my boxes, my tape, and the shipping labels. so, that alone is worth some considerable money. their boxes come in many sizes, and i have most of them stocked in my studio. i buy a ream of tissue paper about twice a year. everythi...

jim, i took a lot of stress off my back by getting a footrest. amazing how much difference it makes. Office Max and Office Depot, those kinds of places, sell a variety of these things, from really inexpensive to big bucks for stained wood, etc. doesnt help with the carpal tunnel bit, but sure takes ...

you might make a friend at a gallery or museum -- those people who install shows know all kinds of tricks. there are a lot of vendors of this stuff, many discussed here in the past (see archives), but also google Museum Mounts , which is a business name, plus Outwater Plastics , and Light Impression...

i'll have to see how the pricing is on a big spool of 22 gauge fine silver wire. i'm aware that it supposedly comes out of the kiln looking good ... i have never fired any to do a test. one thing that has kept me from doing this is the amount of wire that i snip off ... it seems wasteful, unless i w...

u gotta buff it. mine doesnt turn black, but it comes out dull gunmetal gray. i buff it with felt buff on a Foredom flexishaft, with some Diamond Brite buffing compound from Rio Grande. the Diamond Brite leaves some gunk residue, just a very small amount, which can be cleaned off with a little soap ...

one last comment from me on competition from imported jewelry, or for the matter, competition from hugely underpriced goods that may even be locally made: one of my slow-performing stores positioned a small display of dichroic earrings on the counter near my display rack. the competitor's earrings w...

i'm reading this thread rather late ... been away from home for awhile. i noticed someone mentioned the competition coming from glass made in china and mexico. about a year or so ago, a fair amount of this imported dichroic jewelry started showing up, retailing at pretty low prices, which was annoyi...

do you mean glass jewels that will be faceted, like diamonds, for instance? or do you mean fused glass pieces that are smooth, and will be incorporated into jewelry? if you mean standard fused glass jewelry production, that's what i do. i'd be happy to share methods with you, Hugo, if you ask me spe...
