Re: Bee Wet Belt Sander refurbishing
Thanks Kevin, as always, your comments and advice are greatly valued. I did study my owners manual and see the parts you cited. I am on the Big Island in Hawaii and will start calling and see if a machinist will look at my sander as a house call, hopefully and not have to transport. I will try your ...

Bee Wet Belt Sander refurbishing
My Bee sander is in need of recrowning the upper wheel which is pretty flat. How hard is this to do? Any tips for getting it off and who would do the resurfacing? I'm not mechanically handy, would an auto mechanic know about how to do this? The belts are starting to wander when they are used for 20 ...

Re: Which fusing schedule should I use to keep crisp lines?
How did the project turn out? Success or not as expected? It was a very striking lay out to start.

Re: Fiberboard molds
Fiberboard makes a fine drape mold. Are you concerned about adjusting the ramp up? Your regular schedule for slumping float should work the same. The board insulates but it will be on the bottom.

Re: scratch and wet belt sander
The belt sander is impossible to use for a wide flat surface. It has a drum that the belt rides against. It will do edges. Refiring is definitely the best, easiest idea.

Boron Nitride Powder
E bay is offering powdered boron nitride. Has anyone used this product for glass? Apparently it is offered as a lubricant for bullets (!) or as a "white" graphite for lubricating wheels on model cars.

Re: Boron Nitride after Kiln Wash?
I have the steep sided jumping bean 3x3 molds from Slumpy's . I used MR 97 on them when they were new and they were so slippery the glass blanks slid off sideways in the slump cycle. I scrubbed them with a green scrubby pad and then used just alumina hydrate mixed with water in a spray bottle to rec...

Re: glass splitting in a bisque bowl mold
My sympathy, for the watching and worrying sitting by the kiln. You will love your controller even more. On another note, though, please consider extending your anneal, an hour for any thickness never seemed to work for me because it will break on the slump more often than not. Study more posts here...

Re: glass splitting in a bisque bowl mold
You must have a very deep kiln to raise the mold 8 inches from the floor. Manual control is difficult to keep ramping consistently , only side elements means you probably have uneven heat on your piece, plus the glass you are fusing has added texture which means more uneven reaction to the heat. The...

Re: Ben & Vanessa's Newcomer Questions and Endless Posts
I have tried Wissmach dichroic on clear . It is very thin and has some unusual textures. It does devitrify with the clear glass side up when heated to fusing temperature. I tried grinding off the surface to expose fresh glass but that devitrified as well. So I would encase it or just expose the love...

What is this? New glass color from Spectrum or a surface decoration to fire?

Re: Molds to large for kiln?
Are you in a place where there are no ceramics suppliers? A kiln shelf is pretty basic. Any unglazed ceramic works. A kiln shelf that is too large can be cut on a tile saw, too. Save the extra bits- they are useful for spacers, posts and dams.

HIS Glass has the nicest 3M belts. I agree, 120-220 will fire polish on the slump cycle.

Re: Double Curve Mold Base
Yes, it is the slumped glass piece that comes out uneven. I do a heavily textured fuse and the piece doesn't fall evenly into the mold. Before slumping, I trim the bottom and check that it lays on line with the mold by lining it up against another piece of glass. Three out of four are in need of col...

Double Curve Mold Base
Any great ideas for making the Bullseye double curve #8643 16 inch long mold and the big 21 inch long double curve mold stand straight? I have spent more time than I like observing, sanding and fussing with the edge to get it to stop rocking. It is so long and the flat lap is too short with a tire f...

Re: New to glasswork, need help on a project
Bottle glass is really hard to melt into anything, you picked a first project loaded with pitfalls for a beginner. You might want to visit a supplier of fusible glass or someone to help you through a casting. At least read lots more on this forum on casting projects. The cost of the glass is tiny co...

Re: Wet belt sander
I have had my upright Bee sander for 10 years. I think the pulley may need re crowning to aid tracking. How hard is this to do? What other maintenance should I do when it is down? I agree with all the comments- you definitely will use your big sander, don't even worry. It will be an indispensable to...
