Hi Tony and Bert, Borax is 20 Muel Team and yes my glass was clean. I have no idea. Like I said I have done everything by the book and board and get lousy reuslts. I am going to do a few tests this winter since my show season is over and see if I can resolve the problem. I would much rather use bora...

HI Rodney, I wish you better luck with Borax solution than I have ever had. I made the solution 1 cut water to 1 teaspoon Borax (20 Mule Team) it didn't work. Changed the water to distilled water still didn't work, added a couple drops of liquid Dawn still didn't work. I decided that brushing it on ...

Hi, There is a learning curve with it. They have a board that you can ask any questions you need about it. You will find the discussion group under the help menu. Did you do the tutorial step by step? I think it is very hands on. When you do the tutorial if you have a question I think if you go too ...

Hi Carla, I also have the Evenheat coffin kiln. It is new and have only done a couple of test fires in it because I am getting bubbles and also know the temps are to high for what I am doing. I am slumping bottles and am now down to 1400 no hold to get a nice flat bottle and ramping at 400-1000-10 1...

Well I have one just about that good that was asked of me today while setting up for a small one day show tomorrow. A guy saw my wine bottle cheese plates and asked how I did them. Since I believe that education is good I told him that I put them in a kiln for glass and ramped up to about 1450 degre...

Hhi Cynthia, I just purchased a new kiln coffin size from Evenheat. I have a Skutt that is less than a year old that the pins keep falling out of the lid and I had to have the side coil repinned a few months ago. I talked to Skutt several times to even get them to send someone out to pin the creepin...

Tony, I usually use it to glue frit in place or sparingly on angel wings that are about 3 layers. These agnle wing pieces are bigger and clear and I only use enough glue to get them from the cardboard to the shelf in the kiln. Never noticed any shadowing on the wings. I think it is because I use les...

Tony, Not Mark but Nanc. I glued some black course frit down with blue Elmers and got a gray shadowing. For my particular piece it was alright just not what I wanted. I have used it since and used it before in opaque colors with no problems. BTW I was using Spectrum 96.

55-J Paper

Hi, I am in the need for fiber paper and have found a source locally that handles 55-J fiber paper. It is rated at 2300 degrees according to the person that I talked. He is reluctant to sell it to me since it is not 110-J that I asked for. He said that people that do ceramics buy it from him all the...

Did you ever think about making them yourself? I make jump rings all the time by winding the wire around something like a pencil or what ever is about the size I want. Just snip one off as you need it. Works for me. Nanc

I agree that Glastar makes a good cheap circle cutter. Toyo sells the replacement head for it. The sales rep told me that if I liked my Glastar with the head that came with it I would love it with their head. I have not used the Toyo as of yet. Keep forgetting to buy one when I go to my supplier. Nanc

Good Luck Ruth. Just take a deep breath then relax and enjoy the ride. You will shake your head at a lot of the questions. LOL I have been doing stained glass shows for about 6-7 years now but just this year started putting in some of my slumped and fused glass. What goes isn't what I thought would ...

Hi Charlie, How do you apply your Borax solution? I have made the solution in Brad's book (1 teaspoon borax to 1 cup distilled water) with and without the distilled water, used warm, hot, and cold water, sprayed it, brushed it, and I always seem to get mottled spots. I have used it at 1450 and above...

Hi Ruth, I use the 6' plastic top folding tables that can be purchased at Lowe's, Home Depot, BJ's, Sam's Club, etc. They are about $50 and are very sturdy. They have different sizes and one that adjusts in height. I cover them with fitted table clothes for a very tailored look. They work well for m...

I would start with Brad Walker's book that you can buy right here on this site. I learned much more from Brad's book than any class I have taken. I am relative new to warm glass and use the book a lot. Kiln, that is the $64,000 question. Just like everyone has a head they also have an opinion on the...
