Re: Wrought Iron Garden Stakes
I agree with Cynthia, but to take it a step further. I have commissioned a student in our local technical college to make me things I've wanted; mailboxes, hooks, etc. Call the school, ask if they have a metals program and speak with the instructor to see if (s)he has a student to recommend. I have ...

Re: Preparing shelf and firing
Chuck, I haven't had that issue, but the outside of my skutt has peeled. It is in an unheated, enclosed space. (When I got it I read that that might happen.) I have been using thin fire for years, but may begin using kiln wash as I run out of the previous. But I have several friends in the area and ...

Re: 2013 Magnet Exchange How Tos
Thank you to all who worked so hard on this year's exchange. I appreciate that it kicks me in the buttocks and helps me clear my mind and do something outside my usual. I am not very prolific and so making 50 of anything is more production than I usually do. I LOVE getting the box filled with charmi...

Re: Alternate Frit Maker - any downsides?
Bill's is all steel, not galvanized. Nothing comes off that I am aware of. It is smooth. The head of the ram is solid and smashes the bejeezus out of the glass. I may be able to find a photo of it... or not. I've lost many photos when my TB HD fell off the TV tray,on which I was working with my lapt...

Re: Alternate Frit Maker - any downsides?
My friend Bill uses two metal pipes. One larger than the other and the smaller one has a cap. It is very heavy. He puts chunks of glass in, a few drops of the pipe and you have frit; the more you drop it down the finer it gets. Very heavy, low tech, sturdy, reliable. I keep thinking I want to make o...

Re: lettering fused into or onto glass
I am a calligrapher and have lettered on glass for over 30 years, which brought me to the "warm glass" venue. I used to hand letter, hand cut, and sandblast all the personalization. Then came computers and not far behind came all manner of "help". To help now you can typeset name...

Re: sifting with a doily
This post couldn't be more timely for me. I'm working out my magless idea and have been working with a new (for me) technique using frit in water packed into a flexible mold and frozen. BUT the idea of cutting my own pattern and making them easily really appeals to me. Earlier someone said ain't it ...

@ Cynthia... how do you find salvage companies that specialize in store props? Just wondering. I can find a lot of stuff, just ask my husband. But to score on a source that is so specific would be wonderful. TIA.

Arriba, arriba! Did someone say Tequila? Until I found tequila I never understood why people drank hard liquor. It all tasted terrible to me. It's a good thing I'm not a prolific drinker, tho I have my moments. But all that to say, I live in Tacoma, only a two hour drive to P-land. I am willing to ...

Re: How Picky Are You?
I like the approach of a studio sale... a rare event type thing. That makes sen$e. I also agree with the pot melt. It was good to hear how you handle that aspect of the art. I'm sure any artist in any media has a plethora of inventory. Now off you go to the store for more raw materials?

Re: How Picky Are You?
This thread is really old, but I find it very provocative. I seem to stymie myself with this whole topic of how good my pieces are before I offer them for sale. For that matter, when something isn't good in your mind do you break it and throw it away? Sell as a second? I argue with myself. I need to...
