Re: Advice on tile saws

the one thing you have to watch for on the tile saws is being able to set the table 100% true to the blade. i am still fighting this issue on my mk 101 pro. the gemini saw should not have this problem from the look of it...

Re: Rectify dog boned coasters as too thin

i can do a full fuse of 2 layers 3mm for coasters at 1400 deg for i think 10 min - log book is down in the studio - and it works for any color. one layer is clear, usually tekta, one layer is color. since i do a 2nd firing to slump over a fiber paper circle to create an impression, if there are any ...

Re: Cheap saw/good blade?

valerie, it does look like a fairly decent saw, i do have the mk 101 pro since when i bought it i was averaging 5-6 hrs a week on the saw and more at times. the blade i use the most is mk diamond's 303 professional with a .032 kerf. i think mine are 8" blades, if this will fit on your saw it's ...

Re: wire saw or band saw

the taurus 3 is a great machine. the standard blade works well for cutting either 3mm or 2mm sheet into shapes prior to fusing. if you need to cut thicker pieces after firing layers together the speed blade is best.

Re: finishing my glass

Thank you Morgan. I was doing a letter from glass in a plaster mold. the sides touching the plaster had a very thin layer of plaster stuck on it with a rough surface. I have placed glass frits in the mold and fired it up. there is a side not touching the plaster which like you said was very shinny ...

Re: Rocks

Hi Glass Workers I am working with bullseye tetka and melting it over rocks (small). The rocks do not stick to the glass when slumped, but make a nice impression. I was wondering what type of clear glue can be used to attach the rock to the glass? I am working small, biggest rock is 5 inches wide b...

Re: Go and stop and go? Or just go?

the only time i've done extra holds on the way up/down is when i've included copper tubing for channels and then it's in the fire polish firing to avoid cracks around the tubing area. otherwise, i never had a need to stop and hold on the way up to 1100...

Re: using water pump with MK 100--or just a hose?

i went to lowes and got a fountain pump that ran about $50 or so, one of the high powered pumps, put that in a bucket with clean water from a hose feeding into the blade and it's fine. i do a lot of production cutting and have no problem.

Re: CBS Dichroic Coating Instability

Here are some snapshots of a run we had a problem with last week. We experienced a BIG power glitch and it knocked some of the chambers off line. This CA-RED run was underway at the moment. The chamber recovered and we completed the run. The scan was okay for color but you can see that our test fir...

Re: Microwave kiln Were baaaack.

i saw this in a recent delphi catalog i received - if i was going to use something for quick color tests i think i would use a quickfire - which i am known to dislike - rather than this thing! AND they say to not use the same microwave that you use for food ;P so you gotta have a dedicated microwave...

Thanks for all the suggestions. What is pink striker? Connie Anybody tried CBS's "Candy Apple Red"? That SOUNDS like it ought to really be the stuff, but...I haven't tried it yet. D. Yep. Cap it with pink striker... pink striker is a color from bullseye, it "strikes" to a nice p...

Re: best digital camera

i forgot to mention that i found turning off the other lights in the photo area made a big difference - the area where i do my photos has track lights with regular incandescent bulbs overhead and with those on plus the photo lights i could never get the silver chain to really look silver or my color...

What kind of data base are you talking about? MySQL. The original comment that Pam quoted was made in response to a request that we be able to search the memberlist by various criteria. Right now it's only accessible sequentially and can't be searched. In addition to the ability to search the membe...

Re: Directions

I did the Directions show last August in Bar Harbor and it was great. You have to be a member; I'm not but they invited me as they had a bit of extra space due to a date change. They only take new applications once a year and I didn't make the deadline again this year but I would recommend this gro...

Re: web hosting versus other options?

I have read all the various comments and links about website development and web hosts, but what I have not seen [or at least not yet found] is any discussion of the pluses/minuses of having one's own website versus using a sevice like GlassArtist.org - which I noted that several members of the BB ...

Re: Unresponsive

I am very surprised by Stacey's comment since I spent quite awhile on the phone with her last week looking up in my distributor catalogs to see if I could find a soap dish mold she was looking for. Even though we don't carry this item normally I told her I would research it and see if I could find ...

Marla, This seems like overkill for a first kiln, but on the other hand, you know you will never have to replace it for lack of size. One of the things you NEED to investigate before buying this kiln is if you have enough power or breaker panel space, to be able to run it. According to the Jn-Ken p...
