Re: kiln shelf bubbles

I am new to fusing. The last three pieces I have done, about 8x10 inches, have all had a rather large, rather annoying bubble in them. This is a bubble from under the bottom layer of glass. After doing the second piece, it crossed my mind that the bubble might be due to the kiln shelf itself. So th...

Re: Armstrong glass, possible or not ?

Hello, a week ago I did slump glass destined for Stained glass(producer unknown - transparant with some orange) with good result. Got courage with this result and I could buy (cheap) 2 plates of Armstrong, with colours I did like. Did fuse the plate with white and blue (2 layers), and for your info...

Dee, I bought and Oval 13 with 2 half shelves of mullite, each 20" long. Because of weight, if you want a full shelf, they sell you a shelf made of a softer material. It was not labeled as to what it was made of. It has more substance than fiber paper I've seen and is more porous than fiber bo...

Hi Brock, not sure that leveling is the problem because I have checked for that. Also it's as if one side the glass stays up and has these perfect little fluted edges and the rest just sinks in. Plus I had the very same problem in a different kiln. I do however love your idea about the "little...

Re: Pre-Fire Soft Shelf fron Jen-Ken?

I ordered a soft shelf with my new Jen-Ken. There's absolutely no mention of it in the materials that came with the kiln. Do I need to pre fire it before I use it? In one of my previous corporate incarnations I wrote owners manuals. I'm really amazed by what's omitted from kiln manuals and how many...

Keep repeating.... with endless patience. 'Tis the hallmark of a good teacher. Patience is good, but it won't necessarily get your point across. If a teacher gives a demo, or a lecture, or merely tosses some pearls, and the whole class, but one, gets it, you know where you have to put some extra ef...

Re: Eternal Tile Saws

My blade, (and motor) is at the back of the saw also. I just lean forward and push it through. I can't visualize the assembly at the moment, but you might be able to move the saw forward. The acrylic fence is just an (approx.) 4" by 11", 1/4" thick piece, I bummed off the prop maker ...

Re: Eternal Tile Saws

I think I have the saw you're referring to. The main problem I've found with all these saws, is the ridiculously under-engineered, aluminum fence. These fences are locked in place with a set screw. The screw quickly makes depressions in the stop, making it difficult to make fine adjustments. I have...

Re: Critique?

From time to time I ask for critique from this board, in spite of the obvious risks, because I have come to trust kiln crafters and value their opinion. Well, this is one of those requests. I have a new web site at http://www.angelantics.net which I've worker really hard on and would appreciate you...

The main difference will be the amount of air you need to produce to run the siphon blaster... IOW the siphon blaster can be an air hog. So, use the smallest diameter nozzle you can get for your siphon blaster and you'll be able to etch and do limited carving. The upgrade path is to buy a pressure ...

Re: Bubbles under glass

Getting bubbles in my fusing project. I am a new fuser and have successfully completed about 8 projects. The last 3 attempts to fuse have resulted in 1 or 2 golf ball size bubbles under the glass - not between the layers. I have an evenheat kiln with a 12 inch shelf. The piece is an 8 inch circle. ...

Re: How do you see new work

Ok, I've been hanging out here this afternoon. I was reading the thread that Jackie started and then took a long look at the photographer's web site that Lani posted. The images on the photographer's site got me thinking, how did they envision these images. Then I thought about how I envision my wo...
