Re: Joining up stringers

I've use a lit candle to heat, bend and manipulate stringers and noodles. Stringers don't take much to bend, just wave it through the flame. You can feel when it's giving way. Noodles take a little more time. The flame does cause the glass to soot up but it comes right off with glass cleaner and tow...

Re: Urgent HELP needed

Do a You-Tube search for "Exploding Rocks" and you will see some kids heating rocks over a camp fire. They do "pop" or "explode". I have read that some rocks that are heated aggressively will crack, shatter, etc. Weather that's from internal moisture or the kind of rock...

Re: Strange Happenings

Update: Got rid of the red with several attempts at sanding, etching and fire polishing but the finish never really shined. I wish i had access to a sand blaster! It was to be a gift so, as it was not up to my picky standards, I will make another. Definately fused alone in the kiln! I slumped the pi...

Strange Happenings

It seems that on projects that require more grinding than usual, I end up with devitrification no matter how well I scrub and clean the pieces. I’ve had great success treating this devit by coating with Super Spray and re-firing to 1350 for 2 to 3 minutes. On my latest project, I had hoped to avoid ...
