It is a clay, mottled 6 1/2" dropout mold and I used 3 layers of float (3/8" thick total). Raised 4 1/2" from shelf. Fired: slow to 1380 , held 20 min. initially then added about 40 min in 5min increments. Also added 10 degrees for the last 10 min. .....and just before the collapse. A...

First attempt...drop ring.. HELP!!!

Oh no!!!! I was sooooo excited. I kept adding a little time and could see the slump going deeper and deeper. Then just when I thought it had reached the bottom, I realized that the whole thing had collapsed through the ring. My stash of newbie attempts is growing.........  :? :( :x

BE Thin Fire newbie question

I have been experimenting non-stop and having a ball!! :D Now, I want to try Thin Fire since I read that it helps to reduce bubbles. (blocks moisture rising up from kiln washed shelf?) I understand that fiber paper needs to be fired before use, but wonder if that holds true for Thin Fire since it is...

Fusing float glass with Spectrum 96??

I'm soooo new to this and doing lots of experimenting. Just tried some 96 stingers and frit on float glass and it seems to be a success. Will it perhaps break later? :?

slumping help please!

Another newby question: I tried slumping into an 8" scalloped bowl mold and peeked at the end of the hold at 1250, then added 5 min. four times...so the total hold was 25 min. The result is a nice shallow, scalloped bowl, but it should have slumped deeper...another 1/2"+ or so. :?: Would y...

Thanks so much, Andrew. Good information. I do have Brad's book which is most helpful. I just get a bit confused trying to meld information from the various books with the kiln manual and the instructions for the Spectrum 96 glass that I am using. Lots to learn. I will try to fuse the bowl again. Sh...

Help with slump, please!

Hi! I am sooooo new at this. Just got my kiln and I have fused a few experimental pieces and tried slumping a 2 layer fused circle into a small bowl mold. Before starting the slump, I added some frit, etc. for more color. The slump was partially successful, but the frit did not fully fuse...just tac...
