Look in the classifieds for used cabinet sales...you can sometimes get them quite cheaply, esp if you're not picky about finish...after all it's a shop, right? I also picked up one of those lazy susan units for lower units for $20. It's round and free standing. Put it on casters and I have a mobile ...

Pick up a copy of Contemporary Warm Glass, available through this web site. It'll give you a wealth of information and ideas to work from. There's also a lot of good info on the Spectrum and Bullseye web sites that you can take advantage of. Kilns really aren't so scary, it's just a matter of gettin...

Re: Short in Grinder On/Off Switch (I think)
This morning I was using my GlaStar grinder and the on/off switch didn't seem to want to turn it on. After several tries, eventually it did come on and I started smelling am electrical burning shortout smell. I turned it off for a few minutes and then tried it again and could hear some shorting out...

Re: Picking up unwanted mold texture
I just finished my first slumps using 1/2" float in some 16" diameter bowl molds. They came out well, BUT, around the perimeter 2" or so there is a "texture" that I'm guessing is created by the stretching of the glass and it's dragging on the mold. Kind of looks like devit,...

I use dish soap and water, rinese and let dry, followed with an alcohol wipe. If you're looking for a polish, what about kemopro used for stained glass? I've never tried it as a cleaner, only as a finish, so can't comment on using it on really dirty float. I think it has a cleaner though because of ...

Re: Cutting float glass
Bert, Now that you understand my frame of mind, I'll ask the REAL question about the oil/kerosene. I've NEVER used oil in over 20 years and NEVER had any cutter problems or cutting problems. One of my cutters has been with me for 17 years and shows no signs of giving up. Am I the only person in the...

well it isn't really the bottles I am worried about. More like the kiln. I was wondering if anybody has slumped glass in a ceramic kiln. If so could I get some advice about my mystery kiln with no thermostat, a manual control etc etc? I am starting to think trying this project is a bad idea...anybo...

Re: cutting float glass-what am I doing wrong?
Just started trying to cut a piece of float glass, and every time I try to cut strips; something is wrong. Either it doesn't follow the score or it just like splinters and comes off in pieces. All my cutters are either Toyo or Fletcher-Terry. I've tried lighter pressure too. I've tried using runnin...

Re: BE confetti, irid, sandblasting and fluxes...
Thanks both for the info. I'm switching over to BE from Spectrum and am finding there's a new learning curve to master.

BE confetti, irid, sandblasting and fluxes...
Hi all. I'm not sure how to fix this easily...first the background have made a series of tiles using BE clear, 2 layers with leaf green confetti layered between the glass and also sprinkled over the surface. Believing that BE's claim their glass was good for 3 firings before divit occurred, I then a...

aztecs and kiln wash
Do y'all use your aztecs for spraying kiln wash? I sprayed a ss bowl using the coarsest tip in the kit and it seemed to plug up a lot. I mixed the kiln wash thinner than usual. Any thoughts?
