Re: Printer questions for decals

From what I understand from the search, the iron oxide content of the laser printer toners is what produces sepia results. But I still am having trouble finding out if it's possible to print a decal that's still black after firing from home. **ETA: Screen printing, from what I'm understanding from t...

Printer questions for decals

I'm ready to purchase a printer for making my own decals, BUT I'm still not sure which one to buy. I mostly make dichro jewelry in a jen ken kiln and I also have a microwave kiln. 1) I would REALLY like to be able to print off decals that will fire BLACK and not SEPIA. Is this possible? 2) I've read...

Re: Questions for first kiln use

When something does come out quite right, do you typically try to first increase hold times, or increase temperature? I used the guide on that link that was posted above. My mold was similar but had more "slots" in it. They weren't quite "right". Also, can I re-fire these in the ...

Re: Questions for first kiln use

Questions for first kiln use

I got a Jen-Ken AF3P Fuse Box 6/4.5 Flex kiln from Kiln Frog. My first kiln. I started out using a Fuseworks microwave kiln. It came with a little bit of "high fire kiln wash" and it says to apply to kiln shelf (which I already knew to do), and to the kiln bottom. Is this correct? Why woul...

Re: Tips on how to avoid this mistake?

Thanks for your reply. I do get a lot of good ones, that's for sure. I got the microwave kiln because this is my first time ever making anything like this before and I wanted to be sure I'd enjoy it. Well, I have a "real" kiln ordered but it won't be here for a few weeks probably!

Tips on how to avoid this mistake?

I've been fusing small cabochons for earrings in my microwave kiln. Some come out pretty much perfect, but sometimes they don't. I am wondering if the problem lies in the size of the glass pieces, or the placement of the pieces prior to fusing? I have a hard time getting uniform shapes and sizes. Fo...
