Re: Adding a rim to future bowls
Hi, I have my pulley system set up (finally) for my clam shell and I would like to do some raking of glass. I have two designs in mind and I would like to add a rim after I rake the glass. Sheree I've never done this but have thought about making rims on glass since I saw beautiful rims on Ann Wolf...

Re: kiln controller help, please
My smaller kiln is an Olympic 146gfe with a rtc 1000 controller. This kiln has been a great little work horse for years and finally something failed this week. I fired to full fuse the day before and all was fine. The next time I fired it it started going to temp and when I later checked it it said...

Tried to access this link, using Firefox, but it couldn't be found. Too bad, looked liked a useful link. Was it Graham Stone's book?. Yes, it is Graham Stone's book at Warmglass. Suggest you call to get a copy as I'm not having luck currently with getting to the listing on Brad's website which I've ...

Re: Makita 5010 sander
Does anyone have any idea of the cost or even where I can take my Covington wet belt sander for motor repair? I have used the makita 5010 in a commercial glass shop once...they were showing me how they smoothed edges. I am really at a loss here. My pieces are no more than 1/2 inch thick...and no la...

Re: Makita 5010 sander
that is a dry sander. it will sand glass but you will have airborne glass dust and that is no bueno. rosanna Important point...no one wants to get silicosis! I've been spritzing water on my wet belt sander belts as I work and am quite happy with the results. It's a pain in the patush, but I only us...

Re: Broken sink
I have a sink that is 5 layers thick of 96. It had one bad side so I have broken it up and want to try and fire it back into the circle. I am using a metal ring with fiber paper lining. I have it in the ring but now have no idea what firing schedule to use. Any ideas? I think it should be held at l...

Re: Finished piece cracked
Thanks - Great Info. So next question: given that I have seven other masks that did not break in the kiln, are they sufficiently annealed? Or should I flatten them all, take them through a four hour annealing cycle to make sure that they won't be unstable in the future? And if so, would taking them...

Re: Working Deep : Bullseye Lesson
Thank you Steven, Tony and Don! Yes, last year I did the original 22 layers "Working Deep" from the Bullseye Tips Sheet from 2005. Formed a square 6"x6" using crystal clear with Paul Tarlow's "fossil vitra" leaves in transparent powders on several alternating layers. I...

OK, Tom and Bert: Glad you two had a nice conversation here but can you expand on your comments i.e. how is laminating done, and what are the nuts and bolts of the nuts and bolts? Thanks everyone, that was the level of information I was looking for. Just wanted to understand better what you were wr...

Prop it on kiln furniture set on each side of the mold, about an inch or so above the nose. The glass will slump onto the nose first. Watch it, then remove the furniture as soon as it starts to drape over the nose. Then increase the temp a bit and let it finish the job. The chin usually takes the l...

Re: Tempering Bullseye Glass
turn it into laminated panels and forget the tempering. IMHO laminating is better and safer than tempering anyway, I don't disagree Tom, unless there are bolts and nuts involved, at which point only tempered works. OK, Tom and Bert: Glad you two had a nice conversation here but can you expand on yo...

Re: Glass separation
Well, sometimes two glasses find out they're no longer compatible. Glass grows old and changes, and suddenly they're no longer interested in the same thing. Some glass wants to be optometric glass, while the other wants to be decoration. It's especially difficult on the glass children. Huh? Is ther...
