Board display is 4-7x deeper than usual

Brad, Up until two days ago the following situation has never occurred on this site or any other one. I will attach a photo. When I log in I get the standard display. Then after a brief moment it turns into a deep display of the topics. It is very deep and varies (not uniform). It is so undesirable....

Re: Donations/Pricing

I like that idea Cynthia. It really helps everyone. Now I'm looking over my Christmas card list to see who I want to ask to help me out.
<big grin> Thanks again.

Re: Donations/Pricing

I greatly appreciate the responses. It gives me grist for my mind mill. Most points I have thought about and I see by the responses that things haven't changed from the posts I read that were dated 2004. There was talk in 2004 that perhaps artists could take the value of the piece that included thei...

Donations/Pricing

I have been asked to provide three items for an auction. It is for the S.G.Kolman pre-walk auction. I like the cause and feel fine donating, but when it comes to putting a value on the items I am confused. Do I put the IRS donation value of the materials or the price I'd sell it for in a gallery? We...

Re: adjusting sheet glass to fit my needs

Thank you for the replies. Do people put down thin fire and then sprinkle on the frit while on a work table? In the kiln? Is it important to keep it steady and work in the kiln on thin fire? What about any small amounts of powder that may stray if working in a kiln? Just trying to understand the bes...

Re: adjusting sheet glass to fit my needs

Cynthia, Yes, I am a subscriber. So I'll look up "part sheets". Thank you for the link and the advise. I have set an ambitious goal of having 8 piece for a series done by the end of May. I was just approached about donating to an auction. I'm not quite sure how I feel about that. As the do...

Re: adjusting sheet glass to fit my needs

Thank you, Don. I know people paint with frit. I know that people make patterns with it. I just wasn't sure what a single sheet of glass with frit on it was called if the purpose was merely to change the color/pattern for future work. Thank you. Could you tell me if I'm using 3mm sheet glass should ...

adjusting sheet glass to fit my needs

Is there a name for a process that uses frit on a base sheet of glass to get a color that you want to use in a piece? I want to look up firing schedules/color combos/etc. but don't know if it has a specific name. I was thinking of making frit balls and putting them in a pattern on some glass and fir...

Re: Behind the technique.

I looked at your site before reading the other comments. My only comment is the same. Large formatted images for detail. I kept clicking on images on the site to get a larger view, but none was to be had. I think that feature is important for art. I like your sensibilities and style. Good luck with ...

Re: Seam with white residue

Joanne, That's sorta what I was thinking. I'd just using sandblasting instead of a dremel. I will post later to let you know if it removed the problem. (I have two-three days of commitments before I can try it, so hopefully I'll get my large job done so I can try this solution.) Have you done anythi...

Re: Seam with white residue

@ Cynthia, No, it was I who totally misunderstood. When you said in a recent post that you always sand your edges, I (and only I) assumed you meant all your edges, not just the outer ones. <laughing to myself now. what a dumb sh.. ) Sometimes trying hard to improve means taking things the wro...

Re: Seam with white residue

I know of number of people have recommended it. I did say Borax, but meant BonAmi. Sorry. But I believe them to be about the same. I was trying to stay away from the commercial spray cleaners and didn't have any BE cleaner. I wonder if there is some sort of a build up abrasive on the edge that was h...

Seam with white residue

Hello All, I finished my magless exchange and am on to my own project. I read with interest that Cynthia sanded her edges…so I thought if it was good for her, I'd do it too. I am questioning how clean I got the edges though. I have a white residue in the seam. I'm not sure what it is or why it happe...

I find all the comments interesting. I will look into the Schlaifers enamel. I have never heard of it. Everyday I learn something. This forum is an integral part of my learning. Thank you for commenting. I found the enamel tests interesting, too. Even though one might think enamel is so minimal how ...

Re: Business Scruples

What you say is exactly why I posted. I don't think she'll change, so I wanted anyone seeking to purchase enamels to be aware of the right series. I don't think Thompson's website does as good of a job explaining the use of their enamels on glass as it could. You must dig around and/or ask. But as I...

New to screen printing on glass. I was given some Thompson's enamel, but after beginning I find, not enough. So this week I have been trying to find more Thompson's Enamel Series 7000(opaque)/6000(transparent) for working with Bullseye COE. I have called various distributors in my area (I didn't wan...

Re: acid polishing

I used HF on flash glass to create some very nice images. The acid ate away the color and left nice clear glass behind. I, too, used a college lab with ventilators and emergency equipment incase of accidents. The instructor told us how he learned from a guy who was very casual around it and did not ...

Re: New Zealand trip

In 1995 for our 25th Anniversary we went to AU and NZ. Definitely had one great time. It was before I was interested in warm glass. I did etching, but the internet wasn't quite as sophisticated… anyway, just wanted to say we did BnB's the whole time and had the best experiences ever. The people we s...
