Wire if you can pull it out. Straw will burn out as will wax.

Re: Glass not filling void in lost wax technique
sprue sprue sprue and more sprue. High speed may cause cavitation where the glass hits the mold. Chances are you won't be able to consistently control the speed given the thermal characteristics of different molds. Float glass? why bother unless you are wanting a devitrified look. Eye candy here: ht...

Which one will be more pleasurable to use? smoother quieter etc. Then buy that one if both have the features and power you think you need.
I really dislike the noise of operating machinery. You will have to listen and try them both.
What are you going to try making some Higuchi vase forms for glass?

Check out building recycling sources for the tiles but of course when you look for them, the little identifying marking on the back may be covered in grease from the chicken fry restaurant they inevitably were removed from.

Re: How to Fire Dichroic and Retain Colour
Best of all when you get a piece of gorgeous dichroic glass people wonder why you want to charge more for it or just like Barry said you don't want to sell it. Everyone assumes in this world that everything comes from a factory and it is produced simply as required. I think the best way to describe ...

Re: Light weight Kiln Shelf
Armstrong Ceramaguard ceiling tiles are usable BUT they can heat warp, dent easily and also break easily enough when picked up 'wrong'. A regular kiln shelf will stay flatter, won't dent and won't break easily when picked up. My take is to use the regular kiln shelf and accept your kiln firing will ...

Re: How to Fire Dichroic and Retain Colour
The colour you see face on will not be the colour you get when fired. The colour you get will be closer to the colour you see when you tilt the coating. If you are trying for a bright blue, good luck doing it consistently as the coating companies produce variations from sheet to sheet. The only way ...

Re: WIFI monitoring of RTC 1000
If you just want to monitor from point A the kiln to Point B, there are security cameras and screens that are wireless and don't use internet
Swann and Lorex ones come to mind. Basically they are visual and auditory baby minders or unannounced visitor warning systems.

Re: 2020 Ornament Exchange
I like the requirement of a signature. I'll probably use one of my gold decals applied to an edge of the ornament so as to not detract from the design. The paper tags that were often glued on the back in previous magnet exchanges made it difficult to apply magnets. Obviously single layer edges will ...

use aluminum oxide sandblasting grit only. The carbide etched glass will not fire as clean.

Re: I think I have a bad relay. Am I doing this right?
Nothing will generally prevent a mechanical relay from eventually failing. Firing at high temperatures with long holds where the relay clicks on and off more than once a minute WILL generally shorten a relay's life. They will always fail in direct relationship with the importance of the glass in the...

Re: Glass/Cash Survey
The basic issue with creating in glass is not charging enough for what you create. If you charge enough, you may be surprised at what you can earn from your glass work. If you are not charging what an electrician or plumber is making, then you are not charging enough. If what you make does not sell,...

Re: Drop with Dropring
Be prepared for lots of testing. Residual heat within your kiln will be the problem. You will peek at the glass and say that looks perfect only to realize that the piece you are making is like a car with no brakes. The effects of your peeking cannot be ignored either. Take Notes. Lots of notes. You ...

Re: melted mess
I had glass on elements for years. If you have some electrical safety controls, turn off, remove power when kiln is heated to say 800F??? With a spray bottle of water dialed to a fine stream, Open the kiln and spray onto the glass which if you are lucky will crack from the thermal shock and become r...

Brilliant idea. Not that I ever use commercially available objects for molds as I make all my own.
Of course there is one issue with using glazed ceramic plates for molds is that unless you are willing to drill air escape holes in them, you may have bubbles forming.

not that I know of. It was originally a fusing ranch product. If you can find it, buy it. I suspect that the coat, but I have zero idea if my suspicion is correct and nor have I ever done any testing to see, is that it would be alumina hydrate. A lot of fancy priced materials used for glass are comm...

Re: fusing intiricate pattern.
if could be used for food cap with clear.
ensure you have air escape paths below the piece otherwise you may trap air.
That is one firing.
Two firings says clear underneath, fire it and then flip it over and fire again so the clear is on top.
