Re: Replacing Glass for peep hole

Hi Brad,
Thanks! I see they do have the size I need- that was very useful info!

I have the brick, I just need to slide the right sized glass into the slot for it. I need to watch the progress of the fuse, and the glass makes it easier..

Replacing Glass for peep hole

Hi fusers, the glass lens for the peep hole in my kiln is worn and blurry. I successfully removed it from the fire brick holding it. It is 3" square quartz, 1/4" thick. I don't know how to replace it, as the manufacturer has stopped making this kiln. (L and L). So, they don't have parts. A...

Re: painting crisp, even thickness lines

Thanks, all. I decided to use skinny glass noodles for the straight lines, and avoided making any painted lines. But I will need to use them at some point soon, so I will refer to your suggestions then.

Stay safe, everyone.

Re: painting crisp, even thickness lines

Hi Brad, I have tried those in the past. For this particular project, lines cannot vary in thickness or be uneven. Very non-organic.. more architectural. So, a brush doesn't work. I spoke to Bullseye and they said their Colorline paints could solve this. Anyone tried those? Thank you.

painting crisp, even thickness lines

HI All, Wondering if there are any new paint products to achieve curvilinear, even-thickness, thin lines on glass. I have tried many paints over the years unsuccessfully. Too thick, lines spread unevenly, etc. I have heard some good things about Fusemaster EZ fire enamels. Any feedback on this produ...

Re: air supply for blasting hood?

Yes, this hood/air supply did work well for blasting! It leaves any exposed skin around the mask vulnerable. So, an extra hat that covers ears, and part of face would be needed.
Thanks for all the past feedback.

Re: Help- Deposit refund to customer?

Thanks, all. This was a lesson for sure. I will take care to write up a contract. Too bad- in my 16 years of creating fused glass, I never had to.. you just trust your clients and vice versa based on discussions. Her enthusiasm was through the roof when we met- even asked me to present to her garden...

Re: Help- Deposit refund to customer?

I did not have a contract..but will from now on. I did send her written confirmation of invoice and receipt of deposit. Should have stated unrefundable at that point. Have spent a lot of time with her via phone and emails because she kept changing her mind. Based on research, it appears a deposit is...

Help- Deposit refund to customer?

Recently spent about 2 hours at a client's home.. she ordered 2 pieces from me. She was over the top excited. She gave me a deposit for both. Then she called and seemed to be unsure about one of them and wanted that one postponed. I just got a call and she wants her deposit back, claiming new expens...

Re: air supply for blasting hood?

Thanks for the info, Tony. I don't blast enough to warrant the large expenditure. Being a DIY person, I think 'has anyone designed a hairdryer-like machine that blows regular air and has a good filter'? My blasting cabinet definitely has issues re: air supply/ sand.. and often is very slow or clogge...

air supply for blasting hood?

Hi All, I have a new hood for sand blasting, but it fogs up on me immediately. It does have a rear fitting to allow for an air supply, and wonder if there is an affordable way to get air supply. What do you use for this? ( I blast outside for bigger pieces, and it is also easier to do this that my o...

Re: mesh melt turn black

hi all, Thanks for the input. I just spoke with Oceanside glass. Sent them the pics. This is the synopsis- I was working with reactive colors. Most of the time, at normal firing temps, this is not an issue . But at over 1600 degrees for mesh melts, this is.. the Copper based Blues and the Sulfur bas...

a couple skinny cobalts and aventurines. So, they turn black? On a mesh melt, are light colors the only options?

mesh melt turn black

Hi- I am making mesh melts with system 96. Nothing dark, except some small pieces of aventurine green. The rest is firelight white, and light greens and blues, a few blue and green opaques thrown in. For some reason, sections of black result in the melt. It is not spalling- that is small flakes. Thi...
