I am attemping to buy a Taurus 3 ring saw here in Australia, I was quoted $1,800.00.
Currency conversion is USD$.98 -AUD$ 1.00.
So I will not be helping the poor Australian retailer to rip me off.OK

Re: buying glass
Yes I am aware of the freight costs, but the retailers here charge that and much more. The market here is not so big and therefore not very competitive. I buy lots of stuff from the US and even with freight costs it is generally cheaper to do that. Perhaps if you were a retailer and have that kind ...

Re: Considering switching to Bullseye glass
I think once you consider that Uro makes compatible glass with Spectrum...then the palette gets pretty big. I don't think theres any special considerations between BE and Uro/Spectrum...pretty much a matter of choice.

Make a bisque mold and have a dog step in the clay. Fire. then make a reverse mold. fire. then slump the glass on the reverse mold.

Re: Sconce question
Make a model out of clay or whatever material you can manage to form. Then make a castable refractory mold, or a wetfelt mold. We had a local clay place make a full size mold and then they are going to cut it into about 12 sections. I then want to slump glass pieces or maybe drape them...I just don...

Sconce question
If you were to make a sconce shaped like the pic and it was about 40" tall and 20" across and was divided into several sections, how would you make a pattern for the glass so that it would slump properly?

I agree on the tile saw. I have 3 Gryphon tools one being the band saw, don't waste your money on Gryphon tools. I have had a bad experience with them and their tools and go out of my way to not recommend them, By the way if you are still interested I have a gryphon Band saw I am willing to sell fo...

Folks, I archived for this & got several discussions of glass saw but all dating back to 2003 & 2004. Am undecided between Gryphons Band saw, Ring saw & Titan 3 after a virtual assessment ... assuming these products came to the market post 2003/4 , I would like to know the pros & co...

I started with a full sheet 20.5" x 20.5" on a 20" shelf. I had three test projects, all 2 layers of 1/8" glass. Test project #1 was 2 layers of BE transparent. Test project #2 was two layers of Wissmach 90 transparent. Test project #3 was two layers of Spectrum 96 opal. The sch...

Brad, Do you think I could just use a torch? Picture the bottom of the wind bottle cut from the narrowing neck.... Can I use a torch to just slight melt/take of sharp edges on the piece? Re: bottle glass firing schedule
so, are you firing pieces of wine bottles? I'm pretty sure if you are firing rounded pieces then they will most likely start to flatten out unless you can fit them into a mold of sorts or maybe some fiber blanket.G's wrote:Thanks Andy,
Does 1250 just round edges and NOT slump the glass?

Re: vermiculite boards
Hi All, I purchased two vermiculite boards from a company that sells refractory materials. I was told this is the board he most often sells to glass hobbist. I know this is not much information but do any of you know if I should possibly pre-fire? If so hot long and to what temp? I suppose I will n...
