Compressor question
For the past years I've been running my sandblasting set up with a Husky 17 gallon, 1.7HP compressor...it worked, but noisy endeavor as the compressor runs all the time. It is time for a new, bigger one. My cold shop (little shade house which used to house my orchids  ) only has a 115V outlet....

Re: a table
From the original picture posted, I thought the piece was about 1/2 the size it actually is. It takes on such a different personality when seeing it next to you. Great job!

Re: Why do kiln shelves break?
Hmmm. What are apple bananas and egg fruit?[/quote] There are apple and strawberry bananas...they are a lot smaller than regular bananas and taste a bit like apple or strawberries. Egg fruit I knew from India as "chikus"; they are egg-shaped and little larger than an egg. They taste like n...

Re: What to do with vitrigraph stuff
Check my website; all pieces in the top row are made with murrini. Currently working on a piece inspired by a sea urchin shell. Will post pic when/if it reaches the finishing line...I haven't made a pattern bar in a very long time.

Re: Why do kiln shelves break?
That must have been it! I had the 12" BE square slumper mold sitting directly on the kiln shelf. What a great idea to set them on kiln posts directly on the kiln floor...duh! Thanks all. Shipping of kiln shelf to Maui = as much as the kiln shelf (approx $80 + $80 UPS ground)...price of living h...

Re: Why do kiln shelves break?
Thank you for the responses; don't recall physical trauma to the shelf or when it could have heat shocked. Wish I could go to a pottery supply store to pick one out! None over here on Maui. Often order my odd supplies from Delphi but found their handling and packing somewhat sloppy at times (but the...

Why do kiln shelves break?
Opened my kiln this morning after a slump firing to 1275 and found that the 21" diam. kiln shelf had a crack straight down the center. :( What causes kiln shelves to crack? Old age? Shelf and mold were not freshly kiln-washed. Best place to buy replacement? Best shelves? BE doesn't sell round o...

Murrini issue - COE shift??
I just started working on a new piece and the last batch of murrini I made contained BE Tomato Red, Pimento Red and White. I pulled the murrini at 1515. Towards the end of the pull, which took a little over an hour, the canes started to shear while cooling; even after I cut them into little pieces s...
