Yes, Cynthia, that's what I am talking about.
And I assume the same issue occurs regardless of what the accent third layer is, and it is not related to the accent being dicro.
My kiln is so small, shelf is only 12 inches square....hard to dam
Wish I had bought a bigger kiln

When I see fused glass plates and other pieces with accent pieces, if the artist did not want the effect the volume increase would cause on a specific color or placement, they have cut a hole in the second layer to accommodate the increased volume? So interesting.

Re: Volume of glass question
No, not the black If you look closely, you can see there is some displacement of the true blue caused by the addition of the third layer, directly near the dicro. The blue is slightly wider, caused by the additional glass in that area. I know it is only slight and is difficult to see but I am curiou...

Volume of glass question
Hi I've attached a photo of a recent piece 10.5 X 5.5 gentle slump BE glass Question: how do I accommodate the placement of shapes on top of the glass as a third layer without the design under the third layer bulging out? If I add the shapes (in this case, they were free dicro samples received when ...

Re: ceramic and porcelain tiles as dams?
I used one of Laurie Spray's stainless steel squares instead of dams for an 8 x 8 strip construction project with fiber paper around the inside of the stainless steel. I built the strip construction project in my studio directly on a newly washed kiln shelf, then transferred it to the kiln in the ga...

Re: Workbench?
David Great looking table...and your studio looks like a bright and pleasant place to work. I see you have a wood floor. How do you protect it? My studio is a small room in my house with a wood floor. No water. Kiln is in the garage. I am concerned I will eventually damage the floor due to glass cha...

Isn't a temp of 1495 hot enough for any colors?
This schedule seems off to me

Re: Test tile firing schedule
I keep my tiles in small plastic containers, separated by type....opal, transp, streaky, etc Eventually, I'd like to figure out a way to put them on narrow shelves on a wall in my very small studio I've written the color and number of the glass color on one side with a fine black marker. I need to g...

Re: Super Glue Question
Gel superglue is bad stuff...does not fully burn off. I do not know what you should use to remove it but you should remove it. The gel can leave gunk on the glass. I think there's info on super glue if you search the forum Use the regular super glue. I made this mistake thinking the gel would be les...

What is 210J? Can it be used like fiber paper to dam glass? I found it on Brad's website but I do not see enough info for me to understand what it is and how to use it. Thanks

base glass question
Hi I think I know the answer to this question but I want to check before I proceed..truly a newbie question I always use one full piece of glass as my base glass for the blank if I am not using a clear cap on top of a design. However, most of my glass is 10 X 10, less when I cut off the rolled edge....

Test tile firing schedule
Hi I am preparing to fire many small pieces of glass to have a record of how the colors fire. (thanks for the suggestion, Valerie) I plan to use the rolled edges of the glass. It will be one layer only ( unless someone suggests I fire with a cap or base of clear) Here's the schedule I plan to use. 4...

Re: Fusing schedule question
Hi Mark
As Laurie wrote, the piece is sitting on 10 x 10 piece of thin fire. She helped me with this project quite a bit.
No sandblasting...wish I had the equipment but I do not
Must be the lighting

Re: Use of kiln space
Valerie Beautiful! Are these your 1.5 x 1.5 tiles? They look much larger in the photo What a great way to keep the colors accessible for reference. I am going to begin to do this with the rolled edges of all glass I purchase. This was such a helpful idea. I was looking at glass tonight to choose col...

It's done & it's beautiful! Thanks to everyone who helped me...this was truly a community project. I took Laurie's advice & did not cold work the edges, giving it an organic look. I call it my "happy glass". Most of my other work was done with muted transparent colors so this is a b...
