Re: Pot melt

...I don't remember which name brand I use (memory is the second thing to go; wish I could remember what the first one was) but will check when I go back to the studio. Ha ha ha Jerry I heard a good George Burns quotation on the radio the other day, you just reminded me, he said forgetfulness is a ...

I can't download the pdf's from the Schott website Emma, just thought I'd mention that because I don't like recommending something then it doesn't work.

If enough of us mention it to the Schott people they might fix it though.

Good website apart from that.

Hi Thanks for replying, this is the first time I've used this forum and was convinced no one would respond! The glass I've been using is the artista fusing range by desag and my kiln is quite a large front loader. Regarding the cooling time, I had thought the devit was due to being too high for too...

Re: Maximizing Kiln Output - Fast Slumps??

I am trying to get a bunch of work done for my opening and should make it with the schedules I use, but it will be close. In my push in fusing, I have found that I can vent at 300 and open at 150 - even take out and cover with fiber blanket at that temp. It's better to cool something very, very slo...

What kind of glass are you using Emma? I use a small ceramic kiln for potmelts. See here how I set it up; http://www.artemisglass.co.uk/studio5/s5_gallery/slide_show/slumping_&_pot_melt/index.html It's better to cool something very, very slowly that is going to last 2000 years. An extra hour or ...

I seem to have noticed that my kiln is accomplishing things at a lower temp than the literature suggest. Perhaps my kiln is reading the temp wrong. Should I get those ceramic cones and run some sort of test, or just start paying attention a whole lot sooner. This is a good test Robin; http://www.bu...

overlap = thickness of base glass.

thickness of cap (BE thin or regular) gives different effect. Thick gives a bigger radius and magnifies elements placed on the base differently.

Re: WBS: Water is heavy and I am lazy.

Hello All, New wet belt sander. No water in studio. I've read the old archives. Most people seem to use a bucket above and gravity water through fittings to the water input for the WBS. A couple of questions to those of you who have either done this or who think in mechanical thoughts; How about a ...

Dani, you do the link to your website in your personal definition/profile area. Sorry, should have explained that. I think it's a good idea to have my picture on the studio pages. Less of a shock if somebody decides to visit the studio -they don't get so frightened/struck with awe if they know what ...

Jon, I found putting a chunk of clear into the hole left by the bubble and then refiring to full fuse is interesting. The hole gets filled and as the molten chunk levels out with the surface, what it also does is create a magnifying glass effect into the surface layer.

I miss that too Dani. Seems like everybody got shy, I feel like I know the person if they put a picture of themself on their website and it's a friendly place to visit.

Re: Here's how it worked out

What was amusing about the actual return is that I brought my husband with me in case he was difficult about it in person. He brought a female companion with him. It was like we were having a duel and we both brought our seconds with us. I had to laugh at this after we were out of earshot. I've lea...

It's cheaper and softer so doesn't last as long Lisa.

I don't know what the effect will be when it's used with Tony's special satin finish TM but I too would be interested to know.

Currently loaded with white AlOx it's getting too fine so wondering whether to reload with brown.

When you build up the mould, you build up the tickness by coating the wax with your mould in paste form, right? Is it possible to use fibre glass in strands between the layers, to give it strength? I was just reading something in Keith Cummings' book today about something similar. He mentioned fibre...
